Roast The Maxwell hate

I think the Scarlett "overrated" saga got the wheels going.
So my guess is he will give it away in the public eye but behind closed doors forced.

Serious question - Does anyone think Maxy will give it away at the end of the year, or even be "encouraged" to finish up?

Gee that's a good question. I need to put a bit into that one because noone has raised the question of Maxwell giving it away. I suppose he could finish up and then sit out his newly signed contract at home beside the fire...maybe his contract signing was some kind of strategy to get the number one draft pick... or maybe it was a practical joke played on his wife to make her think that he was playing another year...

so yeh... he might be giving it all away at the end of the year..

Thats it. I heard that Buckley asked Scarlett to put the Maxy comment in his book so that Bucks had an excuse to sack Maxy...

Ok, no need to be patronising. I simply didn't realise (possibly forgot) he'd re-signed.

But it's harder for teams to structure up with Maxwell in the side because they don't know where the ball's going to go when he has it.

Sadly with Maxwell his ball use is the most predictable of anyone in our back half. Reid down back had some creativeness with the targets he hit. Some of the other running types run and carry first before disposing of it.

Maxwell is too robotic with the long down the line/to a contest/switching. He doesn't play on, move the ball quickly or have the vision or ability to execute any even above average difficulty passes.

So basically what you're sayin is he's a spud.

I've always had a hatred for pies fans who bag & openly dislike Nick Maxwell. I know him personally and Alot of the views from Pies fans could not be more from the truth if they tried. sure, nick mightnot be a friend of mine but an acquaintance over the last 3 years.

These pies fans who bag him wont know what they are missing when he retires most likely end of next season. Very confident he will be helping Pendles with the captaincy next year. Pendles will be outright captain & Maxwell wont need to be in the leadership group, his experience will be enough for next season.

LOlled at Bucks saying Scarlett's book (sic) should be next to Speccy McGee in the Library....kids fiction section.

I'm fairly certain we wont be losing any sleep over it.:thumbsu:

So basically what you're sayin is he's a spud.

A spud who is possibly our greatest ever club captain. Maxy makes it possible to be both.
If he's a spud he's the most valuable spud in the competition, I'll say that much which is why I don't use that term to describe him.

Maxy was excellent through to 2011 (back when our pressure game really enhanced his value as an intercept marker). In 2012 I feel that's the year he lost his on field ability with that 1v1 game and the lack of rebound he generates really exposed with his run and carry not what it was earlier in his career as a then relative quick guy at his size back some years ago.
In 2012 Maxy rated highly in the B+F and for what he does as captain perhaps he deserves that placing but as an individual talent I'm sure he'd admit that he's not so blessed with talent and with a now deep team he wouldn't even with injuries be a part of my best 22 and if Keeffe was healthy last year he wouldn't have been in my best 22 then either. There are others individually who are more talented and better able to win their individual battles on match day which is the difference and why you don't want him in that back half.

In saying all this I also agree with those who say we'll be a worse team when Maxy retires. His value despite being a below average on field talent is big for this team. He not only provides on field stability but he significantly helps with the development of those younger players and in the development of the club culture which are all better for his presence so he's someone you want on your team list for as long as you possibly can despite his on field shortcoming.

Roger that.

I will now refer to Maxwell as the Golden spud instead of Hackwell or Captain useless which are the 2 common nicks doing the rounds.:rainbow:

Sure Maxy is now past his prime but I reckon we should let him go on his own terms (instead of some suggestions that he retire at the end of the year), it's never been about himself, he's a team player and will be happy to hand over the captaincy when it's time. As for right now, I reckon he's doing okay, especially with the last few matches we've had.

Our support base shouldn't be bagging our own Captain, it makes us look bad.

I get confused about this thing. When we are talking about letting him go on his own terms we are discussing him giving away the captaincy???? So there are people saying that it's incredibly important that he passes on the captaincy? Are they saying that this is going to have an impact on whether we win a premiership? I mean....I'm lost for words. And people call Maxwell a spud and yet they're making these kind of statements? I suppose it's incredibly important that Cloke wins the goalkicking too....
