Essendon - The greatest club with the greatest coach in the league ! Carlton- absolute hypocrites who accuse others of being cheats only for it to be found later that carlton are the "serial salary cap breachers" as quoted by our president, haha

Did I say anywhere that the USA isn't #1 at over-hyping itself? I agree with you and having spent the last 16 months here I can safely say that the over-hyping is way beyond anything you can imagine. However, that is no reason for the Australian media to do the same - perhaps they can pick a better role model?

Re Stadium Australia - it has atmosphere as well as great amenities. I've been to a full MCG and to a full Stadium Australia and there is a lot more noise in the latter than the former.

Regarding the amount the stadium will be patronised post Olympics - it will be quiet in 2001 as it is being re-configured for rectangular and oval field sports. After that there will be international rugby union and soccer, rugby league state-of-origin and finals, some Swans matches, one-day cricket and other stuff as well. With a capacity of about 80,000 it will be filled often, more often than the MCG.

I don't know so much about a need for grass, but I definitely prefer a ground with terraces, as opposed to stands all the way around the fenceline.

I preferred the MCG when the old southern stand was in place, and have never been much of a fan of it. Though my needs differ from most. I see more atmosphere inherent in smaller grounds.

Nevertheless, I have seen big matches at the MCG, and the crowd atmosphere was worthy of praise. The noise generated is astounding. It is so much so, that one can listen to a match on radio, and still feel near to the full force of it.

I think it all depends on our personal perspective and preference.
