It's a mistake though, because you could've offered North pick 3 (as it is currently) and a couple of bonus picks to get pick 1, then ended up with the 2 best kids in the draft.

Selling 3 experienced players for cents on the dollar forced the need to trade a future pick to get extra picks in the 20's last year. If Derek Hine is a genius and a number of McInness, Poulter, McMahon and McCreery work out then it might all be fine, but most clubs would take the top 2 picks any day of the week.

In fact the thing people (namely me) complain about with the academy is Sydney paying for top 5 picks in Mills and Campbell with a bunch of picks in the 30's which just doesn't seem fair. Collingwood have gone and deliberately cost themselves that chance.
