I used to be quite debilitated with them, haven't (touch morning wood) had one in a few years. Had the warning signs but they didn't progress.

me from ages ago said:
I used to frequently have crippling migraines and had to lie in the dark with a puke bucket my friend and only comfort. When I went to the States in '98 I came down with one and staggered into a Walgreens, the chemist grabbed a bottle of Excedrin, gave me two and had me sit down in the back. Less than half an hour later I was cured. Cured! I immediately bought the miracle product. Of course it isn't available in NZ or Australia, so each time I went back to the US I brought some back just in case. I don't get them more than once every couple of years now, and the Excedrin is long gone. :(

So I looked up the ingredients, quick trip to Chemist Warehouse and I'm a happy and migraine-free bunny.

2 x Excedrin Migraine == 500mg paracetamol, 500mg aspirin, 130mg caffeine (I did not tell you this)

I know ive had one migraine in my life. (i remember looking up the symptoms afterwards- and it says you yawn alot the day before??? I remember yawning my ass off the day before it happened..) anyway, yeah so I remember it clearly- was with an IT guy at school, we all had to do this mandatory 30 min training thing with him. And i started seeing spots/floaters in front of my eyes, could not concentrate. Ended up lying down in my office, then the headache hit like a tonne of bricks, felt like i wanted to throw up, etc. Drove myself home, went docs, then went bed, shut the drapes, etc. Just lay in the dark for the next 24 hours. Next day the "edge" of it was taken off, but was still there.

Like i said. I dont know how ppl get these (and worse) on a regular basis.

Never broken a bone. Multiple blood tests to keep an eye on my ferritin level. Ultrasound on my liver and pancreas which was quite uncomfortable and an ultrasound on my plums after i found a lump on one. (was a cyst) Other than that, quite healthy.

I got my left hand mashed in a pizza dough roller 30 years ago, still three two inch scars down my three middle fingers, haven't been able to straighten them since and just for good measure they're arthritic now.

I've never been to a bulk billing practice until I move where I am. I've had about 20 blood tests and few genetic tests, a flow cymotery test, a xray and an ultra sound and has cost nothing. Is this normal ? I'm really unfamiliar with medical costs.

It's normal until the government does a robodebt and sends your doctor a bill for hundreds of thousands of bucks because the computer has flagged their "above guidelines" use of these services. Another "prove you're innocent" piece of shit. Trial by algorithm.

Article in ABC this morning about a Queensland GP taking them to court for an unwarranted $500k bill.

In the meantime, you are perfectly entitled to this.

Every GP visit, blood test has been bulk billed for me. I had about 6 sessions with a psychologist- they were bulk billed. Psych is not, cost about $125. Osteo is not- Cost is about 50-100.

Other heart tests tho i had done earlier this year were BB.

Many many tests are fully, or partially covered under Medicare. Except...

ECG is partially covered, about $30 out of pocket. Have had to have them prior to hospital admission. Varies between providers, so ask before the test (Just because the form says one company, you can usually go to any provider for the test).

imaging I found interesting. Lots of things are free under Medicare, some may have a small charge.

I learnt the hard way, MRI tests depend on who orders, the wording they use on the form, and the specific location.

A GP can order various mri tests, often will be covered. Very specific tests must be approved for Medicare. I had one where the radiology people talked through the specific wording to be used so it would meet the criteria and would not cost me $500.

Just to add to the fun, specific machines are registered in different ways. Some will be gp for free, others will cost if a specialist orders the scan — even within the same company. I went to book a scan, date time etc. Then told because it was a specialist if would cost xxxx. Did not volunteer that if I book at location Y (same basic company) it would be free to me. Told me only after I pushed for more info.

Now, don’t get me started on the exorbitant charges in private hospitals for pathology and imaging. Often hundreds of dollars out of pocket for tests I can get down the road by the same companies.

My wife had to have something done last week in a private hospital, because we live in the bush and the PH is the only place that does it, it was BB
If we had Insurance it probably would have cost something.

My mum (no health insurance)used to go to a private oncologist it would cost her $15 a visit above BB
or she could have hung around for hours in queue at the Public hospital for free.
Her Dr sorted it out for her

Probably would have cost more than $15 if she had insurance

Why cant you get GP prescriptions at private hospital chemists?

Luckily I rang first before wasting my time going in. Instead I wasted my time looking up where other compound chemists were, found that, went there- oh yeah info on the internet was not up to date. Its not a compound one anymore.

Third time lucky.

They were good guys- I asked them what exactly what a compound chemist was.. I was like "ooooooh so you're real scientists then unlike the others", they cracked up

Isnt there a more permanent solution or surgery that can be done?

had autoimmune so my immune system attacked my brain and migraines are a side effect. once im no longer immunosuppressed and thats under control the hope is they should go away or we''ll try different drugs
