Interesting how the only people who are downplaying the significance of this year's flag are those whose teams have been knocked out. I think it's called sour grapes.

There is only one club in the finals with a decided advantage, and that is the Lions.
Never hubbed, hardly left Qld and all finals including the GF at the Gabba.

Nobody says there was an asterisk in 1916 when there were just 4 teams and Fitzroy won the wooden spoon and flag in the same year, or 1917 when there were only 6 teams and Collingwood won the flag.
North American pro sports seasons have been shortened by strikes / lockouts and nobody says those championships wins after shortened seasons have an asterisk.
* 1981 over 700 games of MLB season were cancelled and the regular 162 game season per team was cut back to between 103 to 111 games before the postseason, because not everyone could play the equal number of games before the post season started. The Dodgers beat the Yankees - never heard anyone say that doesn't count.
The 1994 and 1995 MLB seasons were affected by a strike. 1994 season was cancelled after teams had played between 112-117 games and 1995 season started a month late and only 144 games instead of 162 were played.
* 1982 NFL season had an 8 week strike and the regular season was reduced from 16 games to 9.
* 1987 only one game was lost from the season but a couple were played with replacement players
* 1994-95 NHL season had a strike and the 80 game regular season was reduced to 48 games
* 2004-05 NHL season lockout saw the whole season cancelled
* 2012-13 NHL season lockout saw the regular season again reduced from 80 games to 48 games
* 1998-99 NBA season lockout when regular season was reduced from 82 games to 50 games.
* 2011-12 NBA season lockout when regular season was reduced from 82 games to 66 games.

The Olympics have been boycotted by African nations in 1976 Montreal re some countries attending have played against South Africa, 1980 Moscow the USA led boycott by western nations, 1984 LA the Soviet Union led eastern Bloc nations boycotts, nobody says to Aussie gold/silver/bronze medalist from those 3 Olympics, oh that gold/silver/bronze medal(s) you won has an asterisk next to it.
