even if we dont listen, which i certainly dont, it wont stop them spruiking rubbish bs lies about the club on the biggest daily sports media platform in the state. thats the issue, not us listening but what they are saying.
these are both issues.
In melbourne I guess everyone in the media takes their turn taking pot shots at various clubs. The big boys get away with a little more, having seeded more ex-player and ambassador-type "apologists" into the mediasphere but at the end of the day its a competitive market.
here we have a bunch of idiots mostly taking potshots at us, kept in place by apathetic station management who don't yet care to chase the long term change in the local "market". I guess if an older, slower lot listen to your show, the easiest thing to do is to continue dying at the same rate as your listeners. go after advertisers looking for those people. emphasizing share of wallet from the existing "customers" over share of the total market. when we start hearing funeral directors and retirement planners advertising on 5-double-ark we'll know the disease is progressing to the final stages and will die a natural death.
Jars aside, MMM is a bit better and i suspect the audience somewhat younger but still the default setting is "bag port shamelessly" if you're a Crows person in SA radio and "be careful to sound balanced and almost a little defensive" if you're Port, special exemptions only for serial pests, muckrakers (Rooch) and specialist baiters (good old Timmy G).
someone from the Port community needs to be listening to these embarrassing outpourings, most probably our club legal and marketing teams, to rebut the most egregious BS on offer. seriously, the rest of us can safely tune out. there is less here than meets the eye. when was the last time you heard anythin at all insightful out of the mouths of one of these clowns?
