The article actually shows the age profile of our fans more clearly. Older people do tend to volunteer etc once retired.

The other telling comment was that Port scored high on youth fashion spend as well as gaming. Bodes well for the future if we can remain competitive.
I've noticed that when looking at the membership thread- our junior membership is better than the Corporation. The key is retaining them once Mum and Dad stop paying.

"While Port supporters Joseph, 10, and Neve Carroll, 12, show the research is accurate with their love of video games - they own two consoles, a Nintendo Wii and Xbox." ........
Meanwhile Cows supporter Beryl thinks a Wii is why she wears an incontinence pad.

Honestly, what type of pissant "news" paper could even be bothered printing such rubbish?

'Tiser plumbing the depths again, just like that article where they compared Renault v Camry sales.

I was angry when I first read it, but tbh, I'm actually happy they're writing these kind of grasping articles now, cherrypicking whatever makes the Camries look good and us bad. They just look pathetic, and it proves that PAFC is back and all the suckholes are afraid. Good times!

btw, if anyone wants to browse the full lists of fans spending habits (for all teams), link below :)

The spending habits of footy fans have been laid bare in the national study comparing the purchase preferences of more than 30,000 AFL supporters in 25 categories including travel, entertainment, shopping, leisure and parenting.

**** me, a 10 and 12 year old who would rather spend time playing Xbox than give money to charity, wonders never cease. Well done Adelaide now, another well thought out article.
That's known as investigative journalism at the tiser.

It may be useful to those who have the whole numbers, but to just view the list as it is it's pretty useless.

You might expect to see Singapore Airlines advertise more at Pattersons Stadium though

I think the bigger question should be how and why is that information being made available? Personal credit card spending info? **** that.
.... The NAB study analysed de-identified and encrypted data from millions of transactions to find out what footy fans most liked to spend their money on. .....
De-identified or not how the puck does the NAB know what football team a particular credit card holder support?

The generalisations made based on those transactions also assume that no spending or donations to charity are made using cash.

The tiser story has a photo of two Port kids playing an X-Box game. I wonder what line the tiser storyteller fed the parents to get their permission for the photo. He wouldn't have said it's for a story on how Port fans waste their dough on video games while crowies give generously to charity. If the storyteller told the truth he would have been shown the door, with a kick up the backside as a farewell.

I would presume they took their data from people who bought memberships with credit cards, or maybe through BPAY. Each club would have its own particular code or identifying feature in the data that make it easy for the bank to track whose paid membership aligns with what club.

Unless clubs are selling their Membership databases to marketing/advertisers it's mostly useless. And any club who did that would find the backlash and loss of revenue from future memberships would outweigh the immediate cash from doing so.

At 'best' it may allow clubs to take information to potential sponsors identifying an independent justification for a match between the sponsor and a clubs supporters, but given its a small sample of self-identifying supporters anyone who even half seriously looks at any statistics would be very wary of using the figures for anything they would put money behind.

Certainly raises a lot of questions. Clearly banks don't have on file the footy club you support and I can't imagine that all 18 clubs would suddenly turn over their membership lists to them. So it leaves the obvious answer as customers being assigned a team based on membership purchases on their bank records and then having their transactions categorised. And this study has been completed by the NAB based on their data only so a fairly narrow view.
