According to Cornes we hadn't even told anyone about it, not even the SANFL or Oval authorities. Two things to say there, it was accepted there would be a race named after someone and why should we bring either of those authorities into that discussion? The SANFL for one can get knotted, they never had any right in any discussions at all, and the oval authority only need to be brought into it once the decision has ben made, after all it is their oval that Geof Motley's name is getting put onto. I don't believe that this was never brought up, rather I expect that when the naming of stands was brought up Motleys' name was mentioned as one that may appear somewhere other than a stand.
Cornes' article nearly makes it sound like Port sneaked in at night to graffiti Motleys' name on a race.
Cornes is just bitter that he hasn't got something named after him. Why don't we give him something? There are plenty of womens' toilets, after all.
