Spud on AFL bounce shows that he just plucks a few names out of a hat for his fist segment giving Harry Taylor 3 votes for his job on a no name Freo forward, what about Hombschy pulling the pants down of the best forward in the comp? Didn't even get a vote.
I reckon you'll find that most so called experts reckon Port is finished for 2014, and therefore we're not worth a mention. I'd love to see us do what we did last year in the finals: knock out one of the big boys, and scare the hell out of at least one more!!!!!

Taylor had 19 freakin marks. That's insane, and well worth 3 votes.

I don't mind that Taylor got the 3 votes playing as their loose defender was moreso confused that Hombsch couldn't even get a vote for his job on the best forward in the game.

Spud clearly doesn't watch Port because if he did Jack would be one of his favourite young defenders as he's already one of the best spoilers in the comp.

Doesn't necessarily follow that just the stat is worth the votes. Nathan Bassett once had 22 marks and 31 disposals and did not get 1 Brownlow vote for the match. From what I remember of the game he swanned around the backlines picking up cheap marks and had very little effect on the result. Like the Geelong/Freo match there was less than a goal in it.

Didn't see the game but from all accounts whenever Freo kicked the ball forward he just read it perfectly and repelled them virtually every time in the first 3 quarters. Different to Neil Craig's Crab like defensive structure where Bassett could kick scab all day in the backline.

Isn't it spoiling not marking that makes you a vote winner for this stupid award? As such Talyor couldn't be the winner this week. Hombsch definitely had some great spoils and was a deserving winner. Stupid award IMO
It is a stupid award, but they don't pretend it is anything but that. That whole show is just a bit of a bad joke.

Headlines in WA's Sunday Times:

Poor Port prevails (Fjeldstad article)
Tigers hold off surging Crows (Capel article)
Damn I hate the media pissants in this town, on ladder value our win over a higher placed Gold Coast makes their loss to Richmond at home a lot more embarrassing than ours a month ago.

Alternative headline had the Tigers snatched a win over Port in the same circumstances - "Port fail at the final hurdle".

Bit of a red-letter day in the cowvertiser. Although Dangerfield had 24 possies at 58% efficiency with 13 contested they finally ran out of patience with him and realised that he was not worth any votes in the Merv Agars Medal. They also referred to him as "Averagefield"(pg 30).
Boak leads the Merv Agars now.
