Who has said Sydney needs cola. The lower paid players may but certainly not the ones on above average wages.
What I and others have said is no more Eddie driven knee-jerk reactions. The AFL needs to think it through and do it properly including regular reviews otherwise we may go back to square one.

Question for you. Why does Eddie want to get rid of cola AND the academies?
We all know why Eddie wants to get rid of it all. That's not the point.

The point is after all these years, they've had a relatively successful time since the year 2000, compared to most other clubs, they should have built something sustainable over there for the long term. If they haven't done that, then whose fault is that? Why should the AFL continue to give them exceptions?
I'm not saying rip COLA down immediately. But it's no longer needed.
If the Sydney Swans can't market them selves, in Australia's biggest city, in Australia's only city classed as a World City, with all the glitz and glamour and high life it has to offer, as an attractive destination for AFL footballers who are after the chance at the ultimate success, a premiership, then WHAT THE HELL?!

Let me repeat again..Port Adelaide has players who DO NOT want to leave and players who WANT TO come here. In a shit hole like Adelaide.

Harsh on the city of Adelaide, sure it's not ever going to be compared to New York, London etc but there's plenty to like about Adelaide. Didn't Kenny leave Fitzroy for Geelong because he didn't like the city life? Plenty to like about Adelaide especially as a 20 something year old footballer.

Not sure why we slag our own state so much when there's a lot of positives still to be had.

Reality is the AFL no.1 interest is market share, personally wanting to remove COLA from the Swans is more about helping GWS build a fan base which wont happen until they start getting better results than the Swans consistently. Fine line for them though, as the AFL wouldn't want to throw the baby out.

Do not underestimate Eddie's influence on public opinion and do not underestimate the importance of players such as Franklin for the Sydney market.

Yeah I know we are going well on and off the field ... atm.
I think Eddie's influence peaked several years ago - in terms of public opinion. He overstepped the mark when he became Eddie Everywhere and people began to hear his comments as the (usually) carefully couched partisan opinion it always was. If AFL Commission and other club presidents and other media people still give him more time, well that's a kind of hangover from 10 years ago.

Couldn't agree more on Buddy though - absolutely huge for the Sydney market, better crowd puller for them than Ablett would have been. Oldies may rabbit on about Paul Kelly's courage as a midfielder but it's Lockett, Barry Hall and now Franklin their kids watch and remember. May be an unpopular among the greedy outside NSW but by the same token it's critical for the game there that at least two of the four KPF-kids at GWS stay and become draw cards in their own right.

If I didn't like it here I wouldn't be here.
But I'm not going to bury my head in the sand either and pretend it's an amazing place.

Does Sydney still need the COLA? No they don't.
Sydney have been for a decade and a half one of the top performing teams, in Australia's biggest city, with the most opportunities outside of football, in an era when players average salaries are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars allowing them to live a life of extreme comfort. Why do they still need COLA under these circumstances?

GWS is struggling. On field and off field.
Despite being in a region of Sydney with a bigger population then Adelaide, they have **** all members.

Always trying to get 1-up on Port. Is that how success is defined at West Lakes these days?

stoopid..

we got Walsh
we're getting Cheney
we're getting a few draft picks, massive lol.
They're in trouble if Walsh can't coach or get decent assistants around him, they were all puffed chest talking about they got a one over us pinching our midfield coach then we go out & get Michael freakin Voss!

That's an upgrade if I ever saw one, sure Walsh was good with handball setups but imaging Ollie & the other mids learning their trade from Vossy? Ollie 'hulk smash' will evolve into Wines 'destroyer of worlds' lol.

Always.

If 2>1 gets put to bed in coming years there'll be a few hundred thousand people in this town who will have nothing to live for.
