Ashley Browne on afl.com.au rates Pearce an end-of-second-round and Chaplin second-round FA compo worthy.

Other players of note
Knights - third round
Murphy - third round
Moloney - third round
Q.Lynch - second round

Is it just me or are the only players that Browne has under-rated the ex-Port ones?

Bias aside that's probably pretty accurate, maybe Pearce being a tad underrated, considering the AFL won't be as generous as the GC/GWS uncontracted player compo.

if he's basing that on knowledge of the actual contracts then it suggests Pearce's contract wasn't that scarily good.

if not then he's being an Rse

Yeah I read somewhere that the compo was based on two factors - age of player and size/length of contract offered to player. Probably baseless speculation though as we know players from non-vic clubs automatically go down one band ;)

Regardless Pearce is definitely better than one band higher than Murphy or Knights.

Honestly, two separate picks makes sense. Lumping them is way too arbitrary and their lumped worth would change based on draft strength/depth.

If we want to go down the single pick path we can trade them for a higher pick which will be determined by what the market deems appropriate. Can't fault the AFL with this one.

Well, actually you kind of can fault the AFL with this one.

If lumping them together is arbitrary, then that throws into question how the supposed `players in minus players out' mechanism is supposed to work? Which of our two picks would get downgraded? How do they work out the value of Chaplin minus Monfries?

It is inconsistent to treat picks as separate for awarding (on the basis of it being arbitrary?, yet then pretend they can work out what makes a `fair' downgrade in a non-arbitrary fashion.

Fair point actually- so you are saying that if they can arbitrarily "subtract" a player from another player they should also be able to "add" two players together. I can see that.

From an AFL perspective the main problem I see is that futzing around with second and third rounders is all well and good in the subtraction world, however adding picks to create a top 10 pick (potentially #1 if a team finished last) and thereby shuffling teams down the order of the hallowed top 10 order is extremely likely to draw the ire of clubs and inspire them to publically seek change to a blatantly dodgy system, a source of potential embarrassment to Andy D and co.

So yes it's inconsistent, but so is everything the AFL has mandated in the past few years. At least in this situation we have recourse to on-trade our compensation picks for a higher pick, and by definition we would be receiving its single pick worth since it would be what the market is willing to pay.

To be honest what I am more concerned with is receiving pick 30-50 for Danyle Pearce for a nonsensical reason such as "he hasn't played finals recently."

Pick 30 for the entire Richmond squad (minus Chaplin, Knights and other imports that have played finals).
You can't add the picks together - AFL computer says no.

Picks 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 149, 150, 151, 152, 153 and 154 for the entire Richmond squad.

Just to prove that the football media rely on bigfooty for everything, Andrew Jarman on MMM just ran with a rumour completely fabricated by my fremantle supporting friend kingross29 on the Adelaide board that Rutten had had some issues with post season surgery and would be retiring.

According to the Adelaide board Rutten came on to MMM about 5 minutes later to say he'd had no surgery and would play on.

Andrew "I can't beleive Port didn't offer me a job" Jarman will be asking the same question to media outlets soon!

It took two people to write this.

The gun midfielder was snapped enjoying a big night out in Las Vegas last week with a lovely young blonde called DiAnna Petrucci, who reportedly also used to go by the "stage name" Sienna Milano.
The photo was sent in through our NewsForce app and DiAnna, who says she works with ESPN Radio in California, also posted the pic on her Facebook page with the caption: "Aussie football player - Bernie Vince".
Good to see Bernie enjoying himself ahead of the rigorous Crows training schedule which kicks off later next month.

Two people.

I'm sure I've heard Antimo Iannella used to post on Bigfooty?

"Good to see Bernie enjoying himself ahead of the rigorous Crows training schedule which kicks off later next month."

1. Reads like the musings of a biased blogger than not one, but two paid journalists.
2. No prizes for guessing how they would've spun it had it been a Port player instead of Bern, I mean seriously, one of the faces of the Crows organisation canoodling with a pornstar in Las Vegas?

And they wonder why the 18-36 demographic hasn't paid for The Advertiser in years.
