I don't like the fap over Natinui but he is definitely elite. Those rankings favour teams with really positive game styles. Hopefully we get a few more ranked higher soon.
We'd get better melts on BF if we won a flag with only 1 elite player.

Sonny would easily be elite in a better team. He looks bad here because he spends too much time in our awful forward line. When he played midfield minutes this year he was gun.

Ryan will be elite IMO.

It does say Richmond are ranked 9th in the competition according to their ratings. Without wanting to endorse the comment that the stats favour teams with "free flowing" football - I would guess some of the ratings are related to how often players are involved in chains of play that result in scoring goals.

Players are ranked on a percentile basis - Ie, if a player is considered in the top 10% of his cohort, in his assigned position he acquires an "elite" ranking.

With that in mind, Fyfe is a designated Midfielder (inside) and is rightfully rated as a premier player in that position.

I tend to agree with the ratings of our list, outside of Fyfe there is no one who demonstrates consistent, elite performance, bar perhaps Neale, but he is in a very strong pool of players.

Did Lol at Naitanui - that is very generous for a player who has been out of the game for over 18 months.

I agree with that, but I'm also saying that to make that comparison between players in the same position they have to assess things that include contested possession wins, clearances, effective disposal, inside 50's... and also stuff like how many goals a midfielder kicks, how many goal assists, how many times he is involved in chains of play that lead to goals being scored etc - and I would suggest the latter criteria count against the individual players in teams like Fremantle who struggle to score.

I did see that one of our above average players was Branden Matera who only played 10 games last season for Gold Coast, but during that 10 week period Gold Coast notched up their 5 wins for the season and he averaged 2.2 goals per game. That puts him in the 2nd ranking with Walters.

Yeah no doubt.

It suggests our forward line doesn't have the marquee players, I'd be curious to see how Walters has been marked, his numbers as an outside mid would be favourable, however he has most likely been earmarked as a small foward.

His start to the year wasn't great, but he was dominant on a wing when he pushed up, a known flaw in the ratings system.

I know a lot don't like him on this board but all the best to Brad Hardie, I genuinely hope your recovery from the stroke is a positive one.

I heard him doing a segment on PR on Tuesday afternoon, so must have been a shortish hospital stay.

I did see that Mark Fine from SEN got the arse from his regular shift. Bit of a boofhead but I didn't mind some of the post weekend discussions he'd have on each game with Robert Shaw and others.

Yes a very lucky boy but equally scary was his description of watching Tele and then everything going slowly blurred.

Hahaha that's awesome.

Well that was surprising, Fyfe does a long interview with the media about the new players, the coach coming back, Walters and Neale back to full training yet all I saw on tv was the snippet about Bennell and how Freo has a culture problem but Fyfe says not at all. Surprised, not really.

Makes you wonder why you would front up for another interview.

Channel Eagle what do you expect?

Gotta love The Worst. Managed to link Freo, in separate articles, to all of Bennell, Yarran, and Sylvia over the past couple of days. Admittedly they lost me when referring to Sylvia as a 'former AFL star'. Meanwhile the flogs across the road getting loads of puff pieces. Covered Cousins with "a lot of people still respect him". Classic 'sports journalism'. But it does seem a sound commercial strategy. When the supporters of one team leave the game early what better way to distract them than handing them a gossip mag disguised as a newspaper?

2006 prelim is on fox footy right now. Sydney v Fremantle

2qrt - God channel 10 commentators are even worse than I remember.
- Robert Walls is a true flog
- Peter Bell kicked 2 massive captain goals, loved him
- Connolly refused to put McPharlin on Hall. Shane Parker got destroyed
- Walls is a flog, has to be mentioned twice, thank god he's not on our screens anymore.

Matera is superior #3
