West Coast great Peter Sumich left speechless after follow-up question on Fremantle’s flaws

As a general rule, if you’re going to voice an opinion on any issue, you’d best prepare for some follow-up questions.
West Coast great Peter Sumich was left perplexed by AFL Tonight host Kath Loughnan after the former superstar forward was questioned on Fremantle’s premiership potential in the years to come.
When asked if the Dockers were playing a “finals brand of footy that can win a premiership” Sumich was optimistic on the club’s future but shot down their premiership chances with coach Justin longmuir’s current game plan.
I think they need to tinker with it Kath going forward,” he said.
“He doesn’t have to throw everything out, it’s just a slight tinker and then i think they can improve greatly next year and have an assault on the top eight, if not the top six.

“But he does need, in my opinion, to tinker with it slightly.
The Dockers are coming off an important 12-point win over Collingwood to remain in contact with the top-eight in 2021.
Loughnan asked for clarity as to “how” the Freo boss can improve his schemes but both the audio and the former West Coast and Fremantle assistant coach failed to get the message across.

Thanks Dale

According to the news article Lobb is being paid between 675-725k and Walters between 650-700k. This is actually great news because we are in a great position atm to renegotiate their contracts and save some money for our cap. I think Walters and Lobb should be be paid around 550k max based on their output this year.

No way Walters is worth 550k these days. He shouldn't be on more than whatever the average AFL salary is.

Really surprised and disappointed at how quickly people have turned on Walters this year. He’s been an elite player, AA, one our clubs best ever and earned his payday.
Yeh it's embarrassing .
Walters has bled enough purple in his life to be on the coin he is.
Then we have people over in the other thread hanging shit on that Richmond poster (totally justified) ,highlighting how irrational and entitled they are after whining how that club should be “handing back their premierships” just because they lost to gc ...yet here one of our clubs best ever players and most passionate and great indigenous role models has a down year (off an injury interrupted pre season no less) and all of sudden it’s a disgrace he’s being paid so much and he should be traded etc...

Be interesting if those same people applied such high standards to their own job

That doesn't mean he should be gifted an inflated contract next time though.

We won't get anywhere blowing up our salary cap out of sentiment.
No it doesn’t but it also doesn’t mean we should be riding him so hard about his previous one , just because he’s had one down year and which he signed when he was actually in AA. form AND considering we’ve been a bottom 8 club for the last 5 years with not exactly blessed with A graders all over the place but still have to pay minimum 95% of the cap..
Seriously would people prefer we paid the likes of duman , giro , Crowden and hughes an extra couple hundred k instead?

I don't get this notion that you can't criticise a player or call for them to be dropped when their form has been shithouse all season just because of their previous body of work. He may be a club great, but saying you can't call for Walters to be dropped is a completely idiotic notion.

Really?? You think swearing at young players when they make mistakes and at JLO is good leadership?

It’s Walters that’s embarrassing especially when you’re in the leadership group.

Really, when did this take place. Swearing at Longmuir, what a load of shit and you obviously haven't played a team sport. Frustration with team mates is part of the game. Leaders on the ground have every right to respond when a player doesn't stick to the game plan.

Can’t believe the crap on this forum critizing players like Sonny. We have no idea
what role hes been asked to play this year, coming of an interrupted pre season. The guy bleeds purple and has been one of our all time best players give the guy some respect
