Suma has a really rare quality in that you can actually see the cogs turning in his head as he struggles his way through each sentence.

How this man has never been a senior coach is beyond me.
I've never seen someone blink so much.

It's like his brain is buffering.

Went to the game at the weekend and aside from the misses Duffield highlighted, the main difference appeared to be the quality of shots Carlton were generating compared to us. They often had time and space 20 metres out in general play, or a set shot from directly in front, whereas many of our shots were rushed or from a tough angle. The other heartbreaker was Cerra's miss though - his shooting for goal is deplorable for someone as highly skilled as him (and chasing $700k a year).

Both were. Never was looking to be in target.

You make a good observation and I was thinking the same.

Aside from about 5 misses:
Two from Henry
One each from Walters and Cerra
One from Schultz (because it took him an eternity to kick the friggin ball)

Many of our shots were in difficult spots.

With regards Carlton our pressure was off early and late we were buggered so they got away from us with some easier conversions in the first 10mins and last 5-10mins.

I can understand the fatigue at the end but the slow starts are driving me more insane than the missed shots poor execution. A lot of energy is required whilst playing catch-up.

We need to address this ASAP as the my biggest concern.

Cerra is having a bad year in from of the sticks. We said the same about Brayshaw last year. If he stays I’m sure he can rectify.

Fyfe has a mental issue with his goal kicking. He has missed about 5-6 kicks at goal from only 25-30metres directly in front where he rushes a snap kick around the corner.

some stuff to sort out in the off season for the goal kicking, decision making/execution.

We need to address the poor starts now and have more scoreboard pressure on teams earlier.

Kick 3 of those gimme 5 though, like just about any other team would and we win the game despite sucking for half of it.

I love Kath. On Cerra "surely you just take him down to the OBH and say why would you want to leave?"
Yeah that's awesome.

I also wonder tho if Kath was being a bit cheeky with regards to that statement not just in terms of it being a nice spot but also being (especially on a summer Sunday sesh) not bad for a bit eye candy/ decent spot for young Adam to find himself a new broad should his current Melbourne gf want to go home!

Such a tough decision for the club to make. Obviously the first preference is to keep him but the probability of him staying long term is low despite people's comparisons to Pav and Mundy when in contract talks. So the club needs to weigh that into the decision as well. Especially if Horne slips from first place ;)

Still in shock at players having long term girlfriends when they’re drafted at age 18. I don’t claim to be an expert on the mindset of 18 year old boys but surely when you’re about to become a star footballer and have about 30 girls sliding into your DM’s daily you ditch bloody Sally from Porpoise Spit Highschool and play the field a bit!

Obviously it's too difficult to see from the outside but he looks like a quiet and reserved kid so probably has different priorities to others.

That ball drop seemed preternaturally long, didn't. Sure he took a while to steady himself, but it felt like he'd hit a lighter gravity pocket or a white hole as he let that ball go to get to his boot.

I mean, we even started slowly against the Suns. WTF

I felt a whole lot of calm when Brayshaw lined up for his set shot. He's turned himself into a very bankable proposition with set shots. Shows the level of dedication he has to get better at his craft.

Hmmm I’m not so sure we have seen enough evidence of this just yet. There’s some signs of improvement but one swallow does not make a summer.

That’s about the first one he’s kicked all year isn’t it? He jags them from the pocket more reliably than from anywhere in front, on the run or set shot.
Hopefully this was a sign of things to come.

Can only find goals, behinds and shots at goal. So the numbers include shots on the run as well as set shots. They also do not distinguish how difficult the shot was as some of you might have seen with expected score.

2021: 11 shots at goal for 7 goals, 4 behinds and o no scores. 64%

Career prior to 2021: 36 shots at goal for 12 goals, 15 behinds and 9 no scores. 33%

Most of his goals this year have come from running goals fairly front and square. He's got two from deep in the pockets. But the reliability is a big change from previous years. The improvement is exponential.

Blimey - come back from two weeks away and play at home on a 5 day break. Thanks AFL.

(BTW after reading some of the tweets below Daniels' post - I'd like it to be known that I am not known on twitter as "Whitey" - who seems to also like tagging Justin Longmuir with "advice" whenever the side puts in a below expectations effort)
