I reckon there's some on here that will look back in a few years and cringe at their sh*t-posting about Henry. Kid is 20 years old, in two years he could be better than Pickett - we just need to wait and see.
What has happened with Henry is we overpaid on draft night for him , And there is some angst about that . If we had of taken him in the 30's or 40's then the expectations would not be as high .I am on the fence with him , Would expect to see a big improvement in his game next year, If more of the same then thanks Carlton !!Why is this conversation in the media thread?

Yes everyone needs to stop thinking we used pick #9 on him. The earliest pick we used to match the bid was #49. It really didn't cost us anything near a mid first round pick. At worst you'd say he cost us a first round pick downgrade.

As someone who watched a lot of him pre-draft I still believe he has the best skills of anyone on our list. His agility and skills are top level. His speed is better than most on here think as well. His endurance is still building.

The biggest problem holding him back imo is he needs to get his body and mind to a state where he is willing to confidently put his body on the line against mature bodies. He looks hesitant out there and the moment a player isn't laser focussed all their talent and skills count for little.

He's a cracking kid and I'm still 100% backing him to develop into a great player for us in time. If he gets back to making sure he does the basics well in 2022 I think he'll start to realise some of things he was hyped about at draft time.

He was never going 30's or 40's though. Was always a first round talent, and for that he's been slightly disappointing so far but I still love him and think he'll improve over time.

Fair enough but I don't know if I'm seeing it. At the very least he needs more hunger to chase, tackle, do the defensive 1%. Look at a guy like Andy Brayshaw, was able to do all these things in his first year at the club.

I love how Andy Brayshaw is progressing but seriously, in his first two years he was close to the worst kick in the team. We all hoped he passed the ball to anyone else if he was shooting for goal. Talent improves, Andy did (including a couple of ripper goals this year) and Henry will also.

Henry is going to be a very good player. In a more mature and better side he is going to be constant headache for the opposition. We have a shiton of top shelf talent on our list. A top line fat side winger* and one more medium or key forward of sufficient stature and ability that they always command their opponents attention and we're set.

*Clark is an attacking side winger or half back I reckon. Truly great wingers in modern footy that can defend space on the fat side and still get involved in the game going the other way and at stoggages are like hens teeth. It's such a hard position to play. You can forget all the usual suspects people keep pointing at in here, Fredrick, Walker etc. The only box they're ticking is speed and it's so much more than that.

I seem to have gone off on a bit of a tangent.

He wants to play HB. He said his early conversations with JLO were that he will play HB.

As for Henry he has talent in spades just needs composure and fitness to improve. Also I don’t believe he is a natural forward. Had short stints in the midfield but hasn’t developed an AFL tank yet. His colts best work was done in the midfield.

Tom Stewart's the best rebounder in the comp, Clark would've learned a thing or two from him. he was decent the few times they played together and (I think?) one week when Tom was out injured.

If they want to play him off HB, fine by me until we see if he's good enough/ready to push to the wing.

Why because he's black?
Henry has never been a pressure forward.
It's surprising how much his tackling and pressure plays have improved compared to when he first started. It's possible he's the most improved player in the team in that aspect, which says a bit about where he was in those first games and also his possible trajectory.

Everyone’s an expert. Here’s a newby.
I like him & I am really looking forward to Brodie & what he can do. He’s got a point to prove & if he can play to the potential he was selected on, then he will allow completely different roles for our existing mids that will then allow us to cover Cerra from within.

Hope to be proven wrong, but Freo needs more actual talent execution and less hopes and dreams if we want to push into finals.

It's perfectly reasonable to be concerned but you just have to look at Darcy Parish's trajectory to see that each player matures at a different rate.

I thought this was super interesting... Henry should be watching and learning from this guy.

I expected to see some super-selfless set play sacrifices there, but was that really any different to what you could put together for almost any AFL player if you were so inclined? Three whole instances of using your body in the contest during a game?

I dunno, he seems very good at initiating body contact at the perfect time. His uncle was pretty good at that too but WAY more brutal.
