Haha was looking for something else and stumbled on this site. Knew that a few of the boys were involved as there was a story in the paper or club's website but didn't know they had their own blog/website about their different meals. Some interesting reading. I wonder who writes it, as a couple places might not have them back.

No wonder most of the Medium Rares played so well in the final against Collingwood

The boys are a bit behind on their web page only up to 13 August but their Twitter account is more advanced

Power eating putting reputations at steak

THEY call themselves “the Medium Rares’’, file a weekly web review from their weekly culinary adventures but are best known as AFL players representing Port Adelaide.

It was after a casual lunch during this year’s pre-season that the concept was raised among a handful of players, suggested rules for a dinner club were jotted down and the project was in motion.
Ruckman Matthew Lobbe became the driver for the club, which made it a mission to find the best pub steak in Adelaide and report their findings via a blog (themediumrares.com). Tom Jonas does the writing.
There are now seven members: Lobbe, Jonas, Matthew Broadbent, Aaron Young, Ben Newton, Kane Mitchell and Darren Pfeiffer.

The concept is basic enough: the members take turns to nominate time – generally Tuesday or Wednesday night – and place for each week’s review. That member is also charged with bringing a guest to the night. Previous guests have included radio host and former world No. 1 squash player Chris Dittmar and Olympic gold medallist cyclist Anna Meares.

At last count, the club had reviewed around 30 places. After a summer break, they will continue to meet weekly.

Aaron Young, who was with family in Melbourne this week, said there were few restrictions on what places they dined at, but said it had mainly been pubs so far.
“If there’s wine glasses on the table, it’s probably a bit too much like a restaurant for us,’’ he said. “But we’ve been in most areas… We’re thinking we might go country next year, maybe up to Stirling in the Hills.’’

As for drinks, there’s no food and wine matching. Bottles of water are the norm, with a few soft drinks thrown in.

“Generally, we have to train the next morning, so it’s not the time for it,’’ Young said
