Man City's first preference was Sydney FC - who declined - and rest assured FC or Victory would have come at a far greater price than Heart did ;)
I have not read that at all, would you care to quote your source?

Weather FC or MV would have cost more than $12million or not (doubtful really, as WSW is arguably as strong a brand as both, if not more and ultimately sold for less) is utterly speculative and means absolutely nothing in the end.

Stop trying to downplay this historic moment in Australian football because you happen not to be in the middle of it. Honestly MVFC fans are all acting like like 5 year olds with ADHD - "look at me, look at me, aren't I wonderful, please pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Pretty sad, actually.

You seem to be claiming an "I told you so" regarding my West Melbourne suggestion now that Man City have taken over the club. I was simply pointing out that nobody even foresaw the Man City thing when we were crystal balling earlier.
You're seriously trying to compare the two?

Trying to pick a single buyer, from an essentially limitless amount of individuals and consortiums (many of whom we would have never heard of, prior to them publicly stating their interest e.g. the Shanghai group) who may be looking to purchase a professional sporting team, compared to being given the (relatively simple) task of picking a hypothetical location for an A-League team to set up in Victoria (after being so adamant that they needed to relocate) that is somewhat sensible?

Righto...

If these guys can do a decent job they certainly have a very good chance of at least outperforming Victory on-field, given the way Victory are being run. With that, off-field growth will come pretty naturally.

Our name should have been Melbourne City from the start as far as I'm concerned. The possible change of colours will be the only point of contention I would have thought.

Thanks for your worthwhile contributions.

'I told you so' weeks ago...and I wasn't on my own. Manchester City is completely irrelevant, in that respect.
Absolute rubbish. Man City are a huge fish, completely out of left-field, who will in all likelyhood offer a very different business approach than anyone else considered a likely buyer. If you can't see that you really are clueless.

"The club's makeover includes a complete review from top to bottom - from players and staff right through to team colours and name and the potential for investment in a new training base. Heart face an uphill battle to keep fans onside during the process, promising to consult and inform supporters quickly on changes but conversely save any major changes until the off-season. Fan opinion on the move is split, with many already petitioning the club to keep Heart's red and white stripes rather than move to Manchester's sky blue".

Not a huge soccer/football fan by any stretch but what is the status of David Beckham right now?

There was talk that the Heart were trying hard to get him down for decent contract a couple of years ago. Would he be worth bringing in now? He seems to fit what they need - Huge market franchise, heaps of talent, not so old that he would look stupid on the paddock...

A rebranded club, with a known gun like Beckham on board, would get plenty of coverage during summer.

Retired end of last season at PSG.

Latest word is he's behind a Miami team for the MLS

So, if someone other than Manchester City had bought the team, they would have relocated out of central Melbourne?

That's what you're suggesting?

Really?

Okey mete...you tried that relocation suggestion a few weeks ago and couldn't come up with a single reason why it would be a good move. Not one.

'Victim mentality'? Care to explain?

I think I've been fairly patient and calm in trying to make you understand that a Heart relocation to somewhere else in Melbourne or Victoria would have been a terrible move (and I haven't been the only one). You continue to persist with the notion for God knows what reason.

Ok, help me out. What were you getting at from the above exchange, if it wasn't suggesting that a move to West Melbourne could have still been on the cards, had City not taken over?

I think you may have forgotten what you were originally arguing about again. Not for the first time. And it would be great for you to expand on your suggestion that City '...would offer a very different business approach than anyone else...' It's always good for a laugh when you have a crack at talking about business.

Just ignore him MC Dollop. If he isn't purposely winding you/us up then I have fears over his mental state.

It will be very interesting to see how things pan out. The Man City fans that have posted about the issue have all been full of praise for the owners, and have been very clear that no changes were made without paying proper respect to the clubs history and fans views, and that the money poured into not only the squad, but facilities, youth academy and even infrastructure (train and tram lines to grounds, building shop communities etc.) was phenomenal and transformed the area.

I remain slightly anxious over what could happen regarding the clubs colours, I'm not particularly a big fan of the sky blue and certainly don't want it as one of our main colours, but I realise the commercial reality is that they will be included for "brand cohesion" or some shit like that.

Very exciting though, and looks to be a good match for the original promises Heart made pre-Aloisi of youth and attacking football.

Am i the only that thinks that this is potentially going to be a brand new franchise? if the heart name is removed which appears likely and the colours change to fit the manchester city branding...isnt the link to melbourne heart basically dead? the original heart investors have sold the club, man city are in control now, im struggling to see how the heart that we currently know fits in here.

Just dropping by to say congrats. I remember that day fondly when I woke up and won the football equivalent of the lottery, there's nothing like it.

However, I've been with MV through thick and thin and nothing will change that. It's good for football in this country, and it's good for the rivalry (even if I enjoy watching Heart trip themselves up).
Quiet troll.
