The tram and train network is reminiscent of the spokes on a bike wheel, with the city at the centre. They're great if you're trying to get to the centre or anywhere along the same spoke, but hopeless if you're trying to get cross town.

There are zero cross town suburban train lines (a couple non-electrified freight ones) and just two tram routes that don't either end in the city or pass through it.

Adelaide's not much different. Trains go North and south. Tram straight down the main street. Bus routes are better, slowly more east west are being added.

Take it to the Adelaide thread, we're trying to discuss a decent city here.

I've lived in Melbourne for several years and have found Melburnians to be generally very pleasant, well-spoken people and also skilful drivers of cars. The city is also mostly clean.

John Batman was a massive campaigner who was the first European to make a 'treaty' with a local indigenous group, however he ripped them off like the campaigner he was

He also lived in Tasmania and was a bounty hunter that killed plenty of indigenous people..

It's bad enough there's still a suburb named after him...

*(not sure who Melbourne was, they were probably a royal campaigner too...)

Can we talk about how this property “boom” is destroying the essence of Melbourne?

MCG
AAMI Park
Etihad
Rod Laver
Flemington

Palace Theatre
The Forum

Can't afford to buy within 100km's of the above but as a city it's pretty hard to beat.

Melbourne was named after the GB Prime Minister of the day.

Take the beach away from Perth and it's pretty crap, take the beach away from Melbourne and.........just kidding we don't have a beach.

Someone asked me awhile ago where the best beach is in Melbourne and I, having only been to one spot before, said "Altona" :$
