Someone asked me awhile ago where the best beach is in Melbourne and I, having only been to one spot before, said "Altona" :$
If you look past the lack of sand, industrial run-off and smell from the burning oil it's pretty nice.

I've lived in a few places in the city being Carlton, Hawthorn and now Ivanhoe.

Carlton was fun, Hawthorn was better... about 4 tram stops and I was in Richmond, or 3 stops on the train. Great access to the MCG. Fantastic pub at the end of our street, as well as a wine bar.

Moved out to Ivanhoe about 12 months ago.... whilst its very pretty, its certainly not as fun. However its only a 5-10 minute drive to Northcote, Fitzroy and Brunswick so I guess not so bad.

I used to love playing with the swallows, as they darted by me at the top of the War Memorial in the Domain.

Would be nice if Melbourne had a subway system. No the Metro tunnel isn’t one.

John Batman was a massive campaigner who was the first European to make a 'treaty' with a local indigenous group, however he ripped them off like the campaigner he was

He also lived in Tasmania and was a bounty hunter that killed plenty of indigenous people..

It's bad enough there's still a suburb named after him...

*(not sure who Melbourne was, they were probably a royal campaigner too...)

Lord Melbourne, PM of Britain at time of Batman etc.

Bit of a nothing, his missus shagged Byron, gave the world the famous "mad, bad and dangerous to know" line.

That people from outside Victoria find the whole "Batman" thing so eternally hilarious is a compelling argument for #Vexit

Victoria should be independent with Melbourne as its capital.

It would then truly resume its place among the world's great cities.

The referendum Australia deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Why would the other parts of this great island have a say in our destiny?

It will be a decision for us and OURSELVES ALONE to coin a phrase.

You can start building that impenetrable perimeter wall any time. SA and NSW will be waiting at the border with hoses to fill it up.

Also Constitution, brah.

You answered your question on what would constitute much of our border.

Screw the "Constitution".

An pro-independence Victorian government will approach Canberra and ask them to recognise the result of our referendum in the interests of good relations between the two countries.

If they choose not to, we will act unilaterally.

The key reason for Victorian independence is we are sick of being dictated to (and having our money squandered on) redneck yahoos in Queensland or weirdo religious types in western Sydney.

(And yes, we know you get a raw deal on GST, you too should take action)

It would be like the Scottish referendum in the UK. Victoria would talk a big game and then vote to stay because they know that without us they'd just be a cold, drizzly cesspit of brown coal burning dreariness.

The Australian Open would return to Sydney, the Australian GP would return to Adelaide, and the AFL GF would rightly rotate between the major Australian citiies. Super Rugby could return to just having 3 teams that no one cares about instead of 4. The 'sporting capital of Australia' would be no more. You'd keep the Melbourne Cup and the rest of the VRC Spring Carnival, and the VFL would continue to entertain you...
