It was Ross finally playing Matera in his natural role. Effort was always there.
There was an interview from matera earlier in the season (pre-the bye) which contractics this - he said his uncle had a chat to him at end of last season - told him he wasnt fit enough or working hard enough and it spurred him on to put in the biggest off season of his career (included him training over the usual holiday break). He claimed that was why he was so much better this year.

McCarthy needs to work out he needs to do similar or his will end up playing for peel

Yep Cam could end up being a big waste of talent

stringer is hardly a good example - it's just come out last couple of weeks (and was kept very quiet prior to this) that he was battling a 7 yr gambling addiction.

It sounds like this and relationship issues was causing him a lot of headaches when he was at the dogs.

Cam obviously has some sort of mental health issues going on considering he didn't play 1 year when GWS woulnd't trade him to freo first time. He just needs to commit to footy 100% and things will get easier for him. He barracked for freo as a youngster, it would be great if he could turn the corner and become the 40+/year regular goal scorer we are craving

I used the example because they are both mercurial talents who have been criticised for putting in lazy or selfish efforts at times. But the Dogs and Essendon picked Stringer because he kicked goals and helped win them games. You take the good with the bad with mercurial players. Ours is playing WAFL because Ross doesn’t understand that.

Cam had a quiet game just before he was dropped - I just checked footywire and yep, Stringer has had a few 7 disposal 0 goal games this year too. But they persist with him because he has also kicked bags and been instrumental in their victories.

There's not many players that have zero issues. That's what people management and being a coach/leader is all about. Getting the best out of people. It's debatable that's currently the case.

It's not exactly an easy forward line to function in. Added to that, they probably brought him back into the team too early after his illness.

Watching slightly on delay, 5.38 left in the 1st quarter Duman marks a Geelong kick out.

Heaps of space in the forward 50, not a single forward leads. So he kicks it 30 metres backwards.

Who is our forwards coach?

Maybe Duman spotted Hogan, Taberner, Lobb, and McCrafty behind him in the stands.

Scrolling past numerous trade / draft threads to find the changes thread for an important game to keep our flickering finals hopes alive

What's going on people ?

Why is waffling on about Bhillys trade value taking anyone's attention when we are still a chance to make the 8 this year

Sometimes I swear we deserve all the s**t that rains down on us , I always say BF however you like but it's strange to me is all ...... the end of the seasons like a preseason before the important stuff starts in trade week

2 minutes of footy does not make a game. Though those last 2 minutes should have been far different from what they were.

When it's that late and that tight, the players should have done a lot better than they did to stop the goals. Fyfe was dreadfully unlucky not to get a push in the back free with about 30 seconds to go, inside 50 on the half forward flank

Speaking of 50s... There were at least 3-4 we should have gotten. No guts from the umpires to call them

Umpires was deplorable. Dreadful calls throughout.
But the players on the field should’ve done better. No chipping it around with 2 minutes togo, 8 points up. Hill kicked a shocker. Then panic stations.
Need more leadership on the field.
But losses against
St Kilda
Essendon
Gold Coast
Carlton
Melbourne

Killed the season. The fact we’ve lost to the bottom 4 teams is inexcusable. We play down to their level. Every time. Now the season is over

Duman and Banfield aren’t AFL players. Should’ve chose Kelly before Banfield. Such poor recruiting

We've lost those games because of dumb footy.

We are still the experts of needing to work what seems like twice as hard as the other team to get the same stuff done.

When we bring 'great effort' we can make up for that it seems but such a draining way to have to play.
