We're one of the worst, if not the worst 1st quarter teams this season. To hear the senior coach effectively shirk the issue (even if it was a throwaway line) made me melt. Hence here I am.
So how bad are our first quarters this season? Bloody awful, but you already knew that.

Brisbane has the league's worst quarter time record (5-15), we're second last at 5-1-14. West Coast are league best at 14-1-5.

Where we really stink is total points scored in the first quarter. We have scored a puny 42.43 this season (an average of 14.75 points per first quarter). Carlton are second worst with 52.48. Essendon lead the league with 80.58. The league median is 67.60.

When we lead (or level) at quarter time we're pretty good (5-1). Geelong (9-1-0)and Adelaide (9-0-1) are hardest to beat when they lead. Then again every team is hard to beat when they lead at quarter time. Only Gold Coast (5-7), Carlton (3-4) and North (4-5) have losing records when leading at the first change.

When we trail at quarter time we're 3-11. Only Richmond (7-2) and Adelaide (6-1-3) have winning records when trailing at the end of the first stanza.

We also have the league's worst quarter time points differential (-212). Next worse is Brisbane (-171). Port has the best differential (+164) just ahead of Essendon (+162).

Yep. Still a long way to go before we're challenging again.

To me it looks like one thing that has improved this season is our transistioning the ball out of the backline. It's the last kick inside 50 where we're struggling.

Inside 50 conversion rate is a good stat that shows us that our last kick is an issue. Are there any stats that show that our transistioning out the backline has improved? And out of interest what's our i50 conversion rate like compared to the other teams.

I think next year a lot will depend on how we pull up fitness wise. Our injury list in 2016 was as bad as it gets, and I don't think it's been greatly better this season. I think some serious questions need to be asked and some changes made.

I'm still annoyed we wasted our pre-season playing a bunch of old players deep down everyone had to know weren't going to take us anywhere this year. I think we've progressed well (particularly our defence) since Rd 2 but imagine we'd have even more to show for it if the pre-season focus was on development and experience for our youngsters. I think the names in our midfield stand up against any other midfield but for various reasons we haven't seen their best consistently this year. I'd back them in to be more competitive and consistently so next season.

The gaping hole is still the forward line and you just have to look at the table in the post above to see the correlation of the quality of forwards vs efficiency inside 50. We need to acquire some better forward options this off-season plus get our perpetually injured on the park by pre-season (most of whom are forward options). Do that and I think we could see a similar improvement to what we've seen down back this season, up forward and that would make a huge difference to our competitiveness. I don't think our list is that far away from being competitive again but we can't afford to have 10-12+ on the injury list each week in 2018.

Faaaark me that's awful reading

Squiggle has us equal worst team in the comp with Brisbane. Hard to disagree. The first two people out the door should be Ross and the person that arranged his contract extension.

How many 100 point losses do we need before the Koolaid dries up?

Instead of melting I'm just going to spend the next week or so writing up a massive thread about our 2017/2018 problems and what our plan of attack and solution should be. I did a post a few months back which was sort of a mid-season quick analysis but I'm going to build off that and actually crack down at every little thing.

I feel like it's more meaningful than joining in with the melts that are just carbon copy, repetitive posts. Also not to mention I want to ****ing go off my head right now but for my own sanity should just look forward to the future and build something that can have some constructive discussion.

Yep .... its ridiculously hard not to let rip atm...one can put up with one of those losses but to cop it 2 times in row, like that,is a bitter pill to swallow...the squiggle indicating we're as bad as brisbane ..aka the worst team in the competition is a damning position to be in ....rebuild or not people need to be put on notice.
Alot needs to be thoroughly evaluated but i could save them the time on a couple of appointments...rock and eastaugh should be clearing their desks on monday,no questions asked.none.
Our list management is a big reason we're in this position....so obviously alot is on them to get us out of it.
If anyone still doesnt think we're going to have to downgrade our top pick again there in cu koo land...we got major holes to plug allover the field still

Fair well lap and standing ovation as they walked off...

Mate u are kidding????? All we saw on tv was the Richmond song.

EVERYONE WHO CLAPPED ON HERE SHOULD BE ASHAMED. DISGRACEFUL. that's all I can say. This team doesn't deserve the support we've given over the years.
