I'm not sure.. what worries me is the kind of scores being generated lately. The AFL has spent the past decade making the game easier for attacking teams. It feels like we might have missed the boat. We also have drafted in two hawthorn players which kind of makes you think we are following the trend, not making the trends.

I think this is the core of my admittedly very early thought that this year is a re-tooling year so to speak. I think, based on the round gone, they've been successful in reducing stoppages, speeding up the game and increasing scoring. It'll suit game styles like the Dogs and the Cats, and primarily seems to disadvantage a stoppage heavy one. With the extra whack that KPFs might become more important. I think Ross is clever enough to adjust, ditto with the assistants we've brought on. My question is; is the list able to play it and does it suit them?

I guess we will see what happens in the next 3 rounds, particularly against WC and Norf.

Your the boss, but I think we (the board) are better than that.

We (Freo) were shit, I don't think other teams' supporters pointing that out is really that different to those who have Fremantle as their team supported, pointing it out. Especially when you look at the form of some of the usual suspects in that regard.

Well I think it obviously does, sorry if you disagree but it's just the one thread.

I agree - it's kind of like your red-headed cousin poking his tongue out when you are grieving at a funeral...

Some people are keen to play the youth... Fair enough. Realistically I would love Freo to play 3-4 kids but we all know Lyon will play 1 or 2. If Sutcliffe gets dropped, bring Grey in at the back flank. I don't think Tabs should be dropped but if he does, Give Al Pearce a shot or Collins a debut up forward. If Johnson is still injured, I am fine with Dawson, Silvagni and Al Pearce /Collins as our 3 defenders this week. If Mayne does get cut, I want Langdon or Mzungu despite his bad game.

If opposition supporters can be polite and add value then I want them posting, as had already happened in this thread (along with some trolling no doubt). If they troll, then thread ban them (we're usually OK at cutting down the trolls anyway).

I'd rather an open board than one like the Richmond board. Or the North Melbourne board. Or the Carlton board.

Obviously, I'm on the outer but I always thought it pathetic an insular of those boards.

Wasn't meant to be a discussion point- let's get back to why the world is ending :thumbsu:

I don't think grey should play at back flank , if he play got to be mid and HF , chanse get the ball give it mundy and hills ideally handball due to his kicking.

Well I was impressed with Greys debut last year where he got 20 odd disposals. Hill isn't bad on the Flank. Mundy started his career there too. Both Clancee and Danyle could work there too... Still... Having Mundy in the flank means Fyfe, Neale and Blakely are the inside mids. That could work.

We only worry when Hagdorn says he's coming to Freo.

This makes a fair bit of sense. We seriously had a team full of Clancees in terms of decision-making speed, generally resulting in an ill-directed turnover. Given that kind of disposal was coming from our betters users too (Hill, Sonny, etc.), it may well be that they're overthinking every play, which, as we saw with RTB's first strategy overhaul when he started, takes at least a quarter of a season to eventually become instinctive.

If that's the case, we should see the same plodding pace and turnovers against GC (and for the next month or two), although we may have enough to win regardless. If ever we're going to have a 'slow build' year, this should be it. The quality of a team like ours doesn't just fall off the cliff one year later, just as other teams can't realistically improve by 12 goals year-on-year, relative to the same fixture against the same opponent. Similarly, RTB is a good enough coach that we're not likely to implement a new strategy that is woefully at odds with the trends of the modern game. So I tend to think (hope) that there's been a fairly comprehensive shift to our gameplan, and that this will take some time to be refined and executed successfully. Again, next week will tell.

I think the WCE game will be telling on what the players mind set is.

And winning teams can fall down a fair bit; I know different sport but Chelsea under Jose sort of reminds me of Ross and Freo. Thats why this year imo its important to bring in new faces who're hungry to play and not tired of the game plan.

Why not both? and Hooker...instant rebuild.

I honestly have McCarthy in the Harley basket...

Pick swap or upgrade...

Do we have the salary for both? Mccarthy won't be cheap I imagine?

The thing that worries me about mccarthy is that come crunch time psych he might produce goals.
