I guess the consideration of trading Barlow for McCarthy looks pretty good right about now.
Okay I'm desperate and melting but the way the team played today was just completely unacceptable. Seriously what have we been doing all of preseason?
Although we gotta remember this is the opening game of the season and a time for a wakeup call couldn't be better, not that a wakeup call would be involved at all, but I hope to God players like Mzungu, Clancee, Spurr, etc get the roast of the season.

Griffin was mediocre but Clarke just seems to look disinterested. Where has his 2013 form gone??
Matt Taberner is way off being AFL standard, if he shows no improvement this season it might be time to trade/delist.

Also the commentry was sub standard.

Not sure if this is the right spot just want to say that you the Freo board on here is one of the best going around. Always have some good discussion pre game and either side always is good enough to congratulate the other after. Thanks to those that have come across to our board pre and post game, always welcome there.
All the best for the rest of the year, pre season you've had a few question marks injury wise and I think there are still a few not quite fully fit. But you'll be there abouts again, and hopefully you have momentum and a full team to pick from at the end of the year. All the best guys and gals.

Ross will give everyone bar one or two another chance to hold their spot.

Sandi, Johnno and Alex Pearce for sure. All bigs though .Clarke and Griff gone. Muz for Johnno. To bring in Langdon, Blakely ,Collins who goes . Suban and Sutcliffe. Not really like for like. Hughes and Grey average yesterday. Its not as easy as it looks. Tough week ahead.

We'll likely beat GC at home. But if that's what two or so pre seasons of decision making and skills practice brings - wowee!

Bulldogs depth exposes us as well. Johanisen, McLean, Biggs, Daniel. Skilled pacy players we just don't seem to unearth enough of.

Sandilands emphasises his importance. Clarke lost something? Can't jump over Roughead in the centre square.

Effort wasn't there sure. But Hawks et al show effort is not enough, need efficiency and where is that coming. I'll go turn the broken record over now.

In all fairness to him it wasn't the game where a key forward could be expected to perform at their maximum. But yeah, some of his efforts in the first quarter were pretty lamentable. If he can't take the mark then at least cause some pain, that's what Stringer did.

Your boys outclassed us today, I'd be very excited to be a Bulldogs supporter this season.

Mzungu is gone IMO. I'm willing to give a few others another go...

Having said that both Clarke AND Griffin escape this status as we need to play at least one of them. They were both competing for worst on ground. Good luck deciding which to drop, maybe even both.

I'm not going to hang sh*t on our forwards. Thought that they did ok when they actually had decent service, although missing some of the shots we did is not acceptable.

If C.Pearce didn't have so much of the ball he'd also be dropped but he won't.

For those of you who read my Peel post yesterday where I was very disappointed, this is exactly the reason. The game plan that we are implementing at Peel seems to be the same one the boys used today. Lateral kicks in defense, missing targets regularly and very few players with the courage or the skill to take the game on when it is there for the taking.

For those calling for wholesale changes next week, unfortunately there isn't much to change up. DeBoer was one of our best, and he is pretty much plug and play for Suban / Mzungu / Barlow - one-paced with average or worse skills.

Not saying the sky is falling, but these are issues we have faced for some time, and as the AFL tries to push for the game to become more open and attacking our game plan and list of workman-like players is looking more and more vulnerable.

We will win games, I'm sure we will end up in the 8, but we are along way off being a premiership threat.

Personally, I don't think we are ever going to make highly skilled players out of some of our guys, and we certainly are not going to add pace to them. When we have a forward line including Pavlich, Taberner, Griffin / Clarke we will always be exposed by a team prepared to run off them and has the ability to hit targets (this is exactly what happened to us in the second derby last year).

I thought we were out on our feet in the last quarter, and this is because we were constantly chasing the Bullies after getting smashed in the centre and then turning over the ball every second disposal. I haven't seen him mentioned much, but for me today Michael Barlow was absolutely our worst for turnovers - he did it regularly and in really dangerous positions. Not sure what has happened to him, and I know he is not alone, but it needs to be fixed NOW!

I just hope Ross doesn't see this as a reason to go back to his tried and true smothering defensive game, but rather sees it as a wake up call to start weeding out the guys who regularly turn the ball over and bring in guys with better skills.
