To use Ross Lyon exact words " I never get fooled by talent "

He actually said 'I never get seduced by talent'.

What I would do for some talent right now.

I hate to say it and may get smashed here but Grey was awesome BUT he is simply a younger DeBoer, Suban, Mzungu, Pearce type. He is limited in what he will be able to bring. I'm all for him playing, but we need some genuine excitement and talent.

Crozier does honestly look like he could be this player for us. To me he has unlimited upside BUT also looks like the sort of bloke who is too cool for school.

I agree with most of what you say, disagree with some parts.

But do you think we should do this all in one hit? Or stagger it over the years?
One hit. Why slow down the inevitable? Ultimately you're just losing out on time and ultimately lessening trade values.

Crozier is not only inconsistent in matches, but also across them. He's left it too late. Ultimately he's a wasted pick.

Oh don't get me started on Yarran.

I mean sure he paid his dues but seven years in prison or whatever, questions being asked.

But at 27 and missing half the season, including the all-important first AFL pre-season, he realistically won't debut until he's 28. Seriously, what is the point of picking up someone like him? Especially in the main draft?!

I have said it before the board are absolute morons, they thought we still had one last crack at the premiership before a rebuild.

Pav was dying to retire, what a shame he will go through this shambles again.

Crozier should've played more but doe go quiet in games so was always behind a less skilled player. The one I'm still crying over is josh Simpson.

Nobody put a gun to Pav's head. He would have known that we'd need him while Tabs, Apeness and A Pearce were developing. If we didn't have Pav right now we'd be doubly rooted.

Some of what you said sounds like you're up for punishing certain good players for not living up to potential(like Hill).

Why not keep them? But truly get rid of the deadwood?

I still have the slightest hope for Crozier but right now I think I want Rhys Palmer back.

ETA: he did kick a clutch goal and has done that a few times now. He is one of our better kicks at goal. I just wish he got more of the ball

It stopped us playing younger players, even in the seconds it's taking game and learning time from them and I wish I earned the nothing silvia got payed.

Which of our players have missed out on a game in the 2nds because of Sylvia or Gumbleton? AFAIK the only one of our rookies who played in the WAFL reserves was Moller, and that's because we had 5 ruckmen on the list.

Wasted pick? He's still young and needs to be given games and build on today. He could easily have been dropped after last week as he has often been after a performance like last week, but he was serviceable today and can build on that type of performance.

I think we've seen the light and are playing youngsters and getting games into them. This year is clearly a write off and it will depend on the trading but throw Sandilands, Mundy, Bennel a fit Fyfe back into that team and we can still be there abouts next year.

What was the point of Pav staying on? Tabs is useless and only gets games because no one is there to challenge him.

Apeness is always injured, so he won't benefit from Pav either.

Out forward line future is a trade.

To be fair to the club, we didn't trade out picks to bring in senior players. The only senior guy we picked up was Yarran with a 4th rounder. We are already 1 short on the senior list and if Pav didn't play on, we would be using a 5th rounder/rookie pick. Also Taberner would be our No 1 key forward:eek:

Pav playing on is the only part that makes me sad about our rebuild, not the way a champion like him should have to finish his career

It's not letting the young guys take command, ie smith, Tabbs, Ballard, Vandeleur, etc. some these guys still there others gone without really knowing how good they could be.

To give our structures some semblance of a shape. We were going into a year without McPharlin. We couldn't lose Pav just yet because we would have only been looking at Tabs: Apeness was still working back, A Pearce was playing in defence. Pav gives us a year of development.

Edit. If we had have gotten McCarthy, he would have retired. I'm pretty sure he waited to see how that panned out before making a decision.

To be fair most of the footy world will be surprised by how bad we're this year. Some pundits predicted us to fall but I doubt they'd have thought by this much.

But yeah there's a lot of delusional, rose-tinted-glasses posters around here who seem to think the club & revered leader Lyon can do no wrong. Mistakes are positives in their language and if you dare divert from this narrative, even if it's fair criticism, you're subjected to personal attacks & shaming.

The reality is we misjudged the direction the game is heading in and we don't have the personnel to compete in the modern game. Our list is ridiculously imbalanced, riddled with long-term, seemingly immovable plodders & our gameplan is suspect. That's reality. Don't like it? Too bad. Being realistic doesn't make you cynical or a West Coast Eagles mole.

only one thing can make me melt harder and that is that ****ing nob basil crapilas he was just celebrating the fact freo is 0 and 5 during the middle of the demons tigers match

Smith show something against Claremont need to persist with him. Tab can be drop too one dimension.

Spot on post Andrew!

I knew we would fall, but to Carlton at home is shocking. It would seem even the players might not be buying into the 'new' game plan.

Definitely need to give the untried players lots of games for the rest of the year, then it is colonic irrigation time for Freo, get McCarthy, Hogan/ a high draft forward and some back up forwards/ defenders from the wafl ( Bootsma/ Bell/ Mason Shaw/ that Claremont forward). We can rebuild them, we have the technology.

To be honest, I'm still not sure what our 'new gameplan' is, hopefully the players do.

But one thing that is underestimated is the hole left by McPharlin. The guy was an absolute General down back, amazing athletic ability, great composure and good skills for a KPD. We are a shadow of our former defensive selves without him and always struggled when he was injured.
