Our biggest problem at the moment is our pathetic ability in getting the ball out of defence. Apparently we have many intricate strategies in our gameplay. Our defensive rebound strategy must be hidden within a clever cloak that gives the appearance that we have no plan whatsoever. We nail this every week.

Yep, this is one area that hasn't improved from round 1 and was very obvious tonight. All of the GWS defenders impacted play coming out of their backline. Meanwhile we're carrying two that are purely defenders and rarely get involved in moving the ball forward and the rest were sadly beaten and quiet tonight.

This includes the games earlier in the season when we were trying to play a more open style as well.

I bet if you made a graph of the last five years, we'd either be bottom or bottom three in free kick differentials.

Umps aren't the reason we are doing shit this year, but it's only round seven and there have already been so many games when we were dominating (albeit not finishing as well as we should) for a patch and then they would gift a goal or two to the opposing team while totally ignoring infringements in our scoring area.

If we accept that, then we basically concede we have dirty and stupid players who infringe all the time way more than the rest of the league combined. Also, before someone says that free kicks shouldn't be equal, that count includes the even-ups that are given when there is no more heat in the game.

Sometimes, it's not the free kicks given but the ones that are missed that for you but given to another team that can really kill morale.

It's shit.

Have you ever been on a Board? All other Board members are accountable to the others. Even if you are the Chair, if you aren't performing well enough you'll know about it pretty quickly either directly or indirectly - and you'll unlikely be Chair for much longer.

I don't get the knock on Freo's current board though? They've recruited a coach who has given us our most success on-field in our history, they've created a very strong financial position, and they've commenced construction of what will be arguably the best training facilities in Australia. What are we really losing by them moving from Freo oval? Are they really that integrated in Fremantle currently (other than by name)? Will the vast majority of supporters even notice?

If you have a problem with our list management then that's not really the Board's responsibility. The only related thing would be them choosing the CEO who can only be held accountable for not reworking the recruitment team - bit of a stretch to blame them for a list with some gaps though.

No doubt we've missed some opportunities in the drafts, and our trade history is pretty appalling but we've also had some wins - we do have some very high quality players on our list, many of whom were not first rounders, and instead we have done a great job of developing them. I always look at things from a relative perspective and the reality is there are plenty of clubs that have issues with their lists. Just go an check out any club's BF forum and you'll learn of all their spuds that they can't believe are on their lists.

Lol. The Steve's have done a fantastic job, dragging us out of irrelevance and cleaning up the spectacular mess left from Schwab/Hart.

Our revenue is up, our membership is up, our branding and merchandise is going gangbusters, we have one of the biggest sponsorship deals in Australian sport and powerful corporate partners, we don't just roll over to the WAFC anymore, we have negotiated a deal where we are building the most elite training base in the country with minimal capital investment from the club etc etc.

Walters playing off the half back at one point. I watched last years game against GWS last night. I really can't see much difference in our gameplan. The main difference seems to be where we are playing our better skilled players.

-We still are a defence first team. (Listen to player interviews during the week).
-Still play the percentages.
-Still clogging up space.
-Struggling to maintain forward structure (although I thought we were better at that tonight).
-Struggling with goal kicking (Guerra said before game they made no extra effort to practice goal kicking this week).
-Now going back to tagging.

Alex Pearce's brilliance is keeping me from melting though. How f-ing good is he. Tabs wasn't to bad either

You can't see the differences on TV. You need to be at the game to see what is going on up field, behind the ball, and around stoppages to see the differences. We are structuring differently, we have changed our ball movement systems, we are holding forward structure, we are setting up differently behind the ball.

This is a bit of a melt but specifically to do with the fanfare and comments made in regards to our youngsters. First impressions can often bite you in the backside but I'm seeing some other things to people, but we can discuss youngsters on this thread and obviously update as the year progresses.

I'll comment on the youngster in descending order from the age of 22.

Neale - Obviously a ball magnet and major success. Need to sign him up and for him to tidy up disposal. Can hopefully stay in our midfield for years to come.
Taberner - We need to persist with him. Is starting to show signs. Compared to many other like talls, he actually does a decent job. Needs a decent breakout game and to specifically hit the score board.
Sheridan - Looks to have lost confidence, direction or his role. Will continue to fight back at WAFL level, but was really hoping to see a step up and unfortunately he hasn't. Can he be more then just a role player? Does he have that next level in him or does he need to be surrounded by class?
Crozier - For me, I think he has something. Many think he hasn't. Am I hoping or is what he produces the reality? I'm fairly certain of one thing. He has this year to prove what he does have and time is fast running out to even be given further chances. At 38 games does he have what it will take to get a quality 100 out of him or will he fade away?
Smith - WAFL form is like making runs against the year level below you at school. Would love to see him get a sustained run at AFL level just to see, but I'm not overly confident that he has anything to offer at AFL level. Will likely get a shot as his WAFL form has warranted at least a sneaky look.
Collins - Mature age pick up. I'll keep this simple. Don't know much about him, but we shouldn't be picking up mature age talls if we're not going to play them in the AFL. Needs exposure and a crack at it otherwise what was the point?
Hughes - 2 solid hit outs at AFL level and shown something. I'll tell you what I saw at the game. First bounce down he looked to be playing as a loose man. Then someone pointed out to him a spare player that wasn't picked up. He had to run hard to get to him by the opening bounce. He then did this exact same thing later. How to you get to a professional level 1st game or 2nd game or whatever and not realise your role? Don't get me wrong players and structures change all the time, but opening bounce? Kid wasn't ready. All of that said he looks likely to do well.
Uebergang - Will be lucky to do more then Joel Houghton or any number of rookies we have trialed as KPF in the past 10 years. Showing slight improvement in the WAFL is like flipping heads on a coin 5 times in a row - eventually you'll do it and go '**** yeah' I did it, but then you'll realise know one gives a **** and it didn't get you anywhere.
Apeness - Unknown. We can all hope. Truth is he could become a decent big target or not play AFL ever. People who place them in their future forward lines and make comments like 'it's not all that bad if we have Apeness to support Taberner' are smoking the whacky tabacky.
Pearce - Gun. Hopefully can start to create and distribute off the backline.
Grey - Another hard at it type with questionable disposal. His set shot on goal wasn't even laughable, it was simply concerning. I hate to say it, but how can professional players not be able to kick through a ball? Obviously these types need to make up for it in spades in other areas. He does that with his tenacity etc. At the absolute very best he is a DeBoer clone. I love DeBoer, so that comment wasn't meant as an insult, but he isn't someone to make us go forward. He's a sideways move and once again I state, AT BEST.
Langdon - Also has a bit about him and hope he gets a decent run at AFL level. No serious question marks against his name for mine, just needs a decent crack at it and time to build.
Weller - Possibly has the most to offer. Has dash, decent kick and attributes to make a successful career. I will also add that for someone perceived as a great kick he is 1 goal 7 behinds in games. The behind he kicked against GWS on Saturday would've put us up by over a goal. I know those sorts of things are annoying to consider but 45m out slight angle? Needs to be bread and butter and he has missed a few set shots this season. When will a youngster step up and own their moment?
Blakely - This is the guy I'm going to get some negative comments back on. I DON'T SEE IT. Absolute short term look, but in his 3 games he's done very little. I don't get how some can say he's like a young Haselby?? Really? You're comparing him to a guy who got 33 plus touches in his first game at AFL level and was a consistent star from day one. I hate to say it but Haselby had more talent in his pinky then this guy. Comments like he settled in the second half and seemed to pick up the pace? What because he had 7 touches in a half compared to 3. He's missed handballs and doesn't seem to read the play at all. Please don't compare him to Haselby. Possibly the most unfair judgement to make, but I wish to call what I see, not what I hope for and I DON'T SEE IT.
Deluca, Nyhuis, Balic - Who knows. Once again we all hope.
Tucker - Been given a couple of games and will get many more this year. The side step in one game showed some composure. Could be anything and hope he gets many games under his belt.

Take Neale out of it. Who is the most likely to earn a coaches vote this season? Pearce obviously, but its easier to shut down then it is to create.

Who? Which youngster can really carry some WAFL form through. I'm not expecting miracles. Most of these guys will need 50+ games before we can expect anything significant, but I'm praying for a 25 touch 2-3 goal from someone.

You're willing to keep Crosier in the side after years of giving very little but a youngster like Blakely you wipe after 3 games. Their respective form at Peel has been chalk and cheese. Crosier his normal goes missing game and Blakely a regular in the top possession players. Hard to take the rest of your post seriously after the Blakely comment.

Take Neale out of it. Who is the most likely to earn a coaches vote this season? Pearce obviously, but its easier to shut down then it is to create.

Who? Which youngster can really carry some WAFL form through. I'm not expecting miracles. Most of these guys will need 50+ games before we can expect anything significant, but I'm praying for a 25 touch 2-3 goal from someone.

Pretty fair assessment IMO. I don't agree 100% but that's always going to be rare anyway.

Everyone has praised Blakely and they're likely doing it on WAFL form. They have to because he hasn't shown it at AFL level and not even in the slightest IMO.
Crozier has shown snippets at AFL level albeit because he's had 38 games to do so.

This is a bit of a melt but specifically to do with the fanfare and comments made in regards to our youngsters. First impressions can often bite you in the backside but I'm seeing some other things to people, but we can discuss youngsters on this thread and obviously update as the year progresses.

I'll comment on the youngster in descending order from the age of 22.

Neale - Obviously a ball magnet and major success. Need to sign him up and for him to tidy up disposal. Can hopefully stay in our midfield for years to come.
Taberner - We need to persist with him. Is starting to show signs. Compared to many other like talls, he actually does a decent job. Needs a decent breakout game and to specifically hit the score board.
Sheridan - Looks to have lost confidence, direction or his role. Will continue to fight back at WAFL level, but was really hoping to see a step up and unfortunately he hasn't. Can he be more then just a role player? Does he have that next level in him or does he need to be surrounded by class?
Crozier - For me, I think he has something. Many think he hasn't. Am I hoping or is what he produces the reality? I'm fairly certain of one thing. He has this year to prove what he does have and time is fast running out to even be given further chances. At 38 games does he have what it will take to get a quality 100 out of him or will he fade away?
Smith - WAFL form is like making runs against the year level below you at school. Would love to see him get a sustained run at AFL level just to see, but I'm not overly confident that he has anything to offer at AFL level. Will likely get a shot as his WAFL form has warranted at least a sneaky look.
Collins - Mature age pick up. I'll keep this simple. Don't know much about him, but we shouldn't be picking up mature age talls if we're not going to play them in the AFL. Needs exposure and a crack at it otherwise what was the point?
Hughes - 2 solid hit outs at AFL level and shown something. I'll tell you what I saw at the game. First bounce down he looked to be playing as a loose man. Then someone pointed out to him a spare player that wasn't picked up. He had to run hard to get to him by the opening bounce. He then did this exact same thing later. How to you get to a professional level 1st game or 2nd game or whatever and not realise your role? Don't get me wrong players and structures change all the time, but opening bounce? Kid wasn't ready. All of that said he looks likely to do well.
Uebergang - Will be lucky to do more then Joel Houghton or any number of rookies we have trialed as KPF in the past 10 years. Showing slight improvement in the WAFL is like flipping heads on a coin 5 times in a row - eventually you'll do it and go '**** yeah' I did it, but then you'll realise know one gives a **** and it didn't get you anywhere.
Apeness - Unknown. We can all hope. Truth is he could become a decent big target or not play AFL ever. People who place them in their future forward lines and make comments like 'it's not all that bad if we have Apeness to support Taberner' are smoking the whacky tabacky.
Pearce - Gun. Hopefully can start to create and distribute off the backline.
Grey - Another hard at it type with questionable disposal. His set shot on goal wasn't even laughable, it was simply concerning. I hate to say it, but how can professional players not be able to kick through a ball? Obviously these types need to make up for it in spades in other areas. He does that with his tenacity etc. At the absolute very best he is a DeBoer clone. I love DeBoer, so that comment wasn't meant as an insult, but he isn't someone to make us go forward. He's a sideways move and once again I state, AT BEST.
Langdon - Also has a bit about him and hope he gets a decent run at AFL level. No serious question marks against his name for mine, just needs a decent crack at it and time to build.
Weller - Possibly has the most to offer. Has dash, decent kick and attributes to make a successful career. I will also add that for someone perceived as a great kick he is 1 goal 7 behinds in games. The behind he kicked against GWS on Saturday would've put us up by over a goal. I know those sorts of things are annoying to consider but 45m out slight angle? Needs to be bread and butter and he has missed a few set shots this season. When will a youngster step up and own their moment?
Blakely - This is the guy I'm going to get some negative comments back on. I DON'T SEE IT. Absolute short term look, but in his 3 games he's done very little. I don't get how some can say he's like a young Haselby?? Really? You're comparing him to a guy who got 33 plus touches in his first game at AFL level and was a consistent star from day one. I hate to say it but Haselby had more talent in his pinky then this guy. Comments like he settled in the second half and seemed to pick up the pace? What because he had 7 touches in a half compared to 3. He's missed handballs and doesn't seem to read the play at all. Please don't compare him to Haselby. This isn't really a melt but i'm not sure where else to put this but is anyone else surprised with Wellers goal kicking?
He manages to usually have at least a shot a game except for the crows game where i think he played defense for a bit. He has kicked 1 goal 7 behinds for the year, he seems such a good kick off the boot but he just seems to keep missing, its usually at times when we are really searching for a goal too. He did so well with his goal kicking in the NAB too which is the surprising thing, I wish that he would take the shot when charging in from 60 out like in the nab cup instead of passing them off, as i reckon on the run seems to be his most natural and accurate kicking style.

No surprise at all , I want melt that I not yet see before, so far just copy and paste so boring. All the young player melt are taken from Ross interview , sport FM radio and postie argument and opinion nothing new or original melt. Is like a old movie ,remake and remake again.
