I could have written Ross's presser two hours ago.
'We're dissaponted for our members, we win and lose together, we don't indivuslise, centre back issues, not spreading, coaching message not getting through'
It's round f******g 19 for f***s sake. Your a full time coach with full time players. How about spending 40 hours a week getting the message through. Start acting like full time professionals.
Stop coaching to an ideal, have a look at each players strengths and make a game plan based around that. Hawks have lost Roughy and haven't missed a beat.
Call players out that are sh1t. Show the members you care, let us know where the line is between acceptable and not.
Talk players up doing well.
Where is 'centre back'? Do you mean Centre half back? Or half back flank?
Our players can't spread and then when we do we turn it over. Think of something else, or, like I said above, spend some of your 40 hours a week learning to execute the skills. Maybe give yoga a miss for a couple of weeks and work on kicking the ball?

Starting to lose faith in Ross Lyon. What exactly is our forward structure, why don't we have one? Unless we are foxing for draft picks it is the definition of insanity to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.

The kick inside 50 is the most important kick of any passage of play. Getting the ball 70~80m out and bombing it to the cold spot 15~25m out to 3 or 4 blokes running in from all directions and hoping they can improvise something just doesn't work. We almost never go for a short option when we're going forward. We need some blokes to play a traditional half-forward role. Take the ball closer to the forward 50 arc, drag the defenders up, clear some space for the deep forwards to lead into, and try to hit them up with a precise pass.

If a dumb campaigner like me can see it, why can't Ross? We must be tanking..

So, I looked down from my vantage spot to do a double take on Freo's Fab Five forward line and yep, I thought to myself, they can beat any Six defenders of the best teams....they always do. There they were, Matt deBoer, Matt Taberner, Matt Pavlich, Chris Mayne and Shane Yarran. As good a blend of Skill, strength, speed and spirit as you could ask for.
Someone forgot to tell Sydney's six defenders and often more, about it though.
After 15 consecutive clearances from our forward line I heard others around me saying how can we do this to Pav in his 350th game.
It then struck me, this is also the 350th time they have done this to me. Stuff Pav, what about me ? The member you campaigners arseholed from my seat I had sat in for twenty one years as a foundation member.
This is the first time I have left a game early; 3qtr time after Sydney's onslaught I thought Ross probably won't even think of using six forwards, you know sort of like one for each defender to even it up a bit.
Don't know if he did or not coz I was homeward bound; doubt he would have though.
And another thing , Jeff Dalgleish you are a Dockers hating campaigner and when you die you'll be a dead campaigner.

What amaze me , is Ross is there in Mandurah yesterday , and let it happen the next day is totally unacceptable. With the exact style of football , he start to become a total joke if he don't stop the bleeding. I am still a fan of Lyon but is time to wake up and stop blaming on the incoming coach for pre season training.

You left Pav's 350th early??? Wtf

this was the one week everyone should have stayed to cheer the great man being chaired off.

Well the boys should be nice and fresh for the derby! I think only Mundy raised a sweat! Oops, sorry its the melt thread.. too positive!

Never a truer word spoken meima.

The style of play that got Peel absolutely SMASHED by the second bottom team on Saturday is exactly what we played today.

I have never been a Lyon basher and part of me is still hoping that he has some "master plan" involving a high draft pick, exposing players to different roles and sizing up who is AFL quality and who is not. Then there is a part of me that gets more nervous every week thinking that Ross just doesn't have a plan B and that once his manic pressure style of play was worked out he has run out of ideas. Kind of like Simpson now that the Eagles "web" has been worked out.

I hope I am wrong, and I know that we have some quality players to come back, but it would be nice to see even a glimmer of hope that we are improving.

At the moment just the opposite is happening and I can see us getting completely smashed in the derby next week. Eagles are bad, but we are way beyond bad based on today's performance.

I think the only thing I agree with Ross now is this season is annus horribillis
I hope he open up suggestion from roger Hayden, rocky and hale . Will be pretty bad record against their coaching career. At least you escape the WC fan next week about how good they are :rolleyes:o_O. How could same shit happen twice in a week ? Claremont lock inside peel inside 50 in 1st quarter and Sydney do the same .

Spot on Fred.

Funny that our forward line looked somewhat threatening in those three games we won this year when we played 6 forwards. 3 talls and 3 med/smalls. Mayne played his best games when he wasn't required to present as a target and just tackle, pressure, crumb.

[QUOTE"Sweetback, post: 45818402, member: 159093"]I said it at the time but it's going to take more than a preseason to fix our skills. I think we've realised the naivety of this and will be recruiting players who already have the skills.
Would it help the club to bring over an Ex-AFL coach? Hate harping on the hawks, but they are the best in the business. Are we doing enough
off the field? People always blaming the players, but it appears to be a weakness, that can be fixed quicker than anything else.[/QUOTE]
I don't know how we identify potential coaching talent. The Hawks are great at it and on Friday I thought it must be getting increasingly weirder for Clarkson to be coaching against an old assistant more and more each week. Whose idea was it to recruit Hale and Guerra? Was it a desperate measure to keep up with the coaching developments in the rest of the league, or was it made out of necessity to improve our skills and coaching stocks? I'm getting the feeling that it wasn't Ross's idea to recruit them and perhaps he's cutting off his own nose to spite his face a bit to prove a point, or something.
In terms of the club, we could be applying a bit more rigour to our relationship with Peel. I don't like that we have what appears to be a feckless puppet coaching Peel – there should be much more integration between the WAFL club and the AFL club. I don't understand why we can't take Peel more seriously within the merit of its own competition. At the moment it's too siloed for my liking. Maybe this will change with new facilities at Cockburn.
I do think an addition of a more experienced coach will be good, as much to hit the ground running as to be able to challenge Ross or contribute their own experiences to the game plan.
All these things contribute to the overall functioning of the club as an organism that ticks off all it's boxes at every level. I don't know that we're doing that as well as we can.

I'd prefer if we actually were taking risks.
Hit the open player in the middle.
Attempt the longer ball to the player on the lead.
Run and attack agressively...

**** this sideways, backwards shit
I'm not smart enough to create a footy one, but this kind of sums up our game plan versus the good teams...

No offense to the girls :)

Nuh, went with a 5 man forward line all day. Spurr and Ibbo took turns as spare man.

Yup. Last year when Freo fell off a cliff at the mid-year mark, I accepted that other teams had clawed back the fitness advantage Freo had in early games. If this is true, how can a lack of running in pre-season not have been overcome by now?
What I noticed about the 3 games the team won this year is that they played a 6 man forward line and they didn't do those stupid kicks out of the defensive goal square to someone in the pocket, rather they cleared D50. It was refreshing and it worked. God knows why they stopped doing it.

Haha

So do I.... Doubtful it will happen though, for some reason Ross has had us flooding the backline most of this season to stem the onslaught. Why? ****ed if I know, save embarassment? Would prefer us to try and take the game on and get smashed every week than this shit.

We could have used this season to try something.... no..... let's flood the backline so our neither our oppenent or us can move the ball freely and score.

So we played the way we did today to stem the onslaught and save embarrassment? F*** I don't know about Ross but I felt there was an onslaught happening anyway. And I was embarrassed by the team i support, not sure about him? Have a crack Ross!!!

The problem is, with the competition being so even, your literally f*kd if your 2% off. There is no way you can cover for these amount of injuries in such a strong comp.
