We've played early, but not 10am early. Usually 11am is the earliest we've played from memory. Would explain why the dogs were able to get on top of us so easily. And with the clocks changing back over next weekend, there will be no other games to test the theory out with

The time of the game? There's a new one.

What time do the players train again?

We probably aren't as bad as we looked on the weekend but some of the excuses put up aren't reasonable. Let's just bring back Sandi, MJ and Alex, drop three spuds (not Weller) and see how we go over the next few weeks before we start worrying too much and/or start pointing our fingers at the AFL.

I did notice their jumpers were a bit faded - maybe that extra hour of sunlight again...

Still trying to not have an atomic meltdown, tantrum and throwing the baby out with the bathwater combined…..

….I’m still clinging to the hope that we are not that bad and have just started quite slow, like Sydney 2014, lost badly to a young GWS and Collingwood in the opening two rounds, but ended making the GF. Here hoping that we’re similar, except one better. Lots to look forward to (Bennell, Yarran, A Pearce, Collins? Mora?, Fyfe playing better).

If we are that bad then I hope we can run the line ‘we’re on a small rebuild’ like Geelong.

Props to lots of level headed supporters here

My 2 cents, Re-signing Ross was a bad choice
DanWA it's easy for us to become bitter and unfriendly after a result like that but I'll try to be nice.

Even those of us who follow Fremantle closely don't know what was behind the resigning, so I will trust that those in the know have made the right decision with all the fact - only time will tell.

Having said that, it's probably not the smartest place or time to offer your two cents' worth! ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a "no opposition supporters" thread on our board before

Things must be getting bad. Hopefully the melts can be contained in here and not infect other threads

Win win win really
  • Negatives get a thread to rant without bring down every other thread
  • Neutrals have something entertaining to read
  • Positives have a thread to avoid

Given this is a vent thread for our posters I've gone and used the no opposition posters tag for I think the first time ever.

I won't be retroactively banning opposition fans from before this announcement though.
That's crap. We (as in BF Freo) are better than that. If someone trolls, thread ban them but I think it's a massive step backwards to use the NOP tag.

It's ONE thread for Freo fans to vent in, opposition fans can use a myriad of other threads if they want to engage in discussion. Given the heightened emotions and at times hysterical and irrational posts from our fans I don't think we stand to gain much from opposition fans coming in here and agreeing with how shit we are.

I have been on a bit of a media ban and just came back on line. I know this thread isn't about other teams but it is a melt thread. Has the media forgotten Dangerfield played for Adelaide?? I mean for shits sake, he has always been that good, sheesh. I will spew if I hear another commentator talk about him as if he has just arrived on the scene.

Anyway, what a utterly crap performance on Sunday and kudos for those who sat through and watched it till the end. I certainly didn't so don't believe I can comment too much on effort etc.

But with a bit of perspective I think that rebuilds, extreme changes can wait till the season is completely gone if it gets to that point. And that is one of the reasons we tied up Lyon for five years, so he can weather the storms that come with dropping down the ladder. I thought that the dip would probably happen next year though.

In an interview before the season started, Lyon talked about his shift in his management style this year. And particularly how he was letting the assistant coaches take more control. One of the questions he was asked if he was able to do that when things went bad, and he basically said he had to pull back on the urge to take over, he used the Mt Barker preseason game as an example of how he had to direct but not go in guns blazing. Wonder how he went this week???

Your the boss, but I think we (the board) are better than that.

We (Freo) were shit, I don't think other teams' supporters pointing that out is really that different to those who have Fremantle as their team supported, pointing it out. Especially when you look at the form of some of the usual suspects in that regard.

Each to their own but I quite like having a thread where we don't have to worry about others trolling in.

And who knows this thread may get a run a few times this year :p

OK OK OK I feel the same way as most all of you.............:p:cool::confused::(;):drunk:

Here is the HOPE
Maybe,,, just maybe the players were a little confused about the NEW game plan as to where to be what to do if this , if that and and if the other thing. :drunk::confused:
And in didn't want to be disciplined for being out of position.............. And in the process were .6 of a second behind the play....and couldn't play natural..????????

This is the only explanation... I mean we only scored 5 goals..... The Dons scored 9 against GC and Brisbane scored 15 against the Eagles.. this makes me think...;):eek:

This makes a fair bit of sense. We seriously had a team full of Clancees in terms of decision-making speed, generally resulting in an ill-directed turnover. Given that kind of disposal was coming from our betters users too (Hill, Sonny, etc.), it may well be that they're overthinking every play, which, as we saw with RTB's first strategy overhaul when he started, takes at least a quarter of a season to eventually become instinctive.

If that's the case, we should see the same plodding pace and turnovers against GC (and for the next month or two), although we may have enough to win regardless. If ever we're going to have a 'slow build' year, this should be it. The quality of a team like ours doesn't just fall off the cliff one year later, just as other teams can't realistically improve by 12 goals year-on-year, relative to the same fixture against the same opponent. Similarly, RTB is a good enough coach that we're not likely to implement a new strategy that is woefully at odds with the trends of the modern game. So I tend to think (hope) that there's been a fairly comprehensive shift to our gameplan, and that this will take some time to be refined and executed successfully. Again, next week will tell.

He did just arrive on the Victorian scene. That's a massive step up. Can you imagine the love for Fyfe if Richmond had listened to him and drafted him at 19 instead of Ben Griffiths (EDIT: haha just remembered Richmond selected Aaron Fiora the pick before Pavlich. Imagine 2014/2015 Richmond + Fyfe + Pavlich. Might have done a little more than won a final. Sorry, we often get crap for our drafting but I always have a giggle over Richmond's misses).

I'm not sure.. what worries me is the kind of scores being generated lately. The AFL has spent the past decade making the game easier for attacking teams. It feels like we might have missed the boat. We also have drafted in two hawthorn players which kind of makes you think we are following the trend, not making the trends.

Granted Ross is a great tactical coach but he is always going to be a guy who refines an already existing strategy, not create one. We had a guy who tried that (Harvey) and it didn't work so i doubt we will go down that path in the future.

the other thing to consider is that you don't want to peak too early. Last year we peaked at about round 12. If we play like shit for the first 12 rounds but peak later and still make the top 4 then we'll be better positioned than last year when we looked stuffed coming into the end of the year.
