No one answered my question - I can't bear to watch the game now - but are we playing the same game plan as last year and being flogged for it, or are we trying to be more attacking with the players being given first dibs not having the skill to execute?
If it is the latter, I suspect that the experienced players are being given an opportunity to play themselves out, with the view to easing the younger skilled players in. There's no other way to justify dropping loyal stalwarts of the team but losses, so I can see that this is going to end a long, painful transition year.
The latter, I hope.Yeah, think of 2012. But just can't see us making the adjustment this year quickly enough to contend.
I already think that with the players on our list we simply don't have the cattle to contend this year. We can add Bennell and Yarren and even Grey or Crozier and whoever else and continue to play Weller and Langdon but we're starting from too far back, the structures, uncompromising adherence to the gameplan and the defensive mechanisms we've adopted over Lyon's reign won't be easily swung the other way quick enough. We need to be much more fluid and instinctive but our habits are deeply ingrained. BUT if we do all that I think we'll be well poised for next year and beyond.
