I know that sometimes Ross's pressers should be taken with a pinch of salt, but he was quite candid about our lack of leg speed currently to implement a new system, which they are looking to re-jig. Definitely a game plan in transition.
Yes I was a bit confused by that, admitting to a new system/ game plan (copying Hawthorn) that relies on kicking skills and or speed then basically saying in the same breath that we don,t have them and it puts you under pressure. If thats the case then something will have to give, either changing the game plan to one that can be carried out or persevere with it and hope the players begin to execute it when the heat is on. I wouldn't want to be a slow mid/ flanker with below average kicking skills and expect a long career.

Agree, anyone with poor kicking skills will struggle.

Barlow, C Pearce, D Pearce, Suban, de Boer all must be considered in the gun, and none have been drafted in the last 5years or were rookies.

I will not be surprised if 3 of them are not on our list next year.

Also just for arguments sake, the last time freo kicked over 100 points and lost was way back in 2009 v Carlton

Will need to double check my facts but pretty sure that was the last time. Certainly don't remember anything in the Ross Lyon era

Christ...imagine if we go 0-4. Folks will be burning each others profiles down.

I'm not entirely sure why, but there's something perversely entertaining about watching so many children turn on each other cause things aren't going well.

The wife said I was taking the loss pretty well. Yup, reading BF makes me feel better.

Yeah I think were taking all this pretty well really. only 2 posters quiting BF and only a few clueless optimists and I told you so trolls.most people are tentatively into a rejig rebuild or waiting and seeing a bit longer.

Us melting should be a credit to the FFC. If this was happening 10 years ago it would almost be accepted as the norm because that what the club was like - promised the world and delivered an atlas. However, over the last half decade or so our culture has completely changed. We are not the laughing stock we once were and we've even been a couple of kick from the ultimate success. The club itself has allowed us to have high expectations of what it can achieve which I think is great. As far as I am concerned the melt is healthy. I am one of the ones losing their mind over the start to this season but that's only because I expected so much better. By taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture (see my "The Future..." thread) it's not all doom and gloom. We have the best player in the comp, many emerging potential superstars coupled with state of the art facilities.. As such, I expect us to spend some time down the bottom and then rise up again.

Bugger that. I want to see the end of the tunnel before the end of this season. If we keep losing, we play the kids, and find out which ones will step up, (and rotate some of the older players based on form). There is still enough talent in the team to win games and not bottom out. Thanks St Kilda by the way.

I would feel so much more optimistic about a new "system" being put into place if I could see even just a fraction of what the hell it is we are trying to achieve... Our skills are so bad that it's near on impossible to get a good read of things. If it is a case of us not yet being able to fully get our heads around the tweaks to the game plan as Fyfe suggests, how long do we persist before conceding the Season is slipping away from us? Is Ross going to force it until we get it right & sacrifice this year?

The big question is can the current list compete with the other contenders? I'll realistically say so far, no we don't.

You could be optimistic and say things will turn around, or even truly go nuts and say we're just holding it in to explode onto the stage later in the year. But really, to those that say 'who can come in a replace the plodders'? See every single re-build/mini-rebuild a club in the history of the draft has had to make as evidence as to why anti-youth is a bad idea(which is what you're saying, since the other reason which is to win games was already lacking mid-way through last season).

There's success and sustained success, I honestly feel with the new upcoming training centre, stadium, etc etc. That willingly heading for the drop into a hole we'll take years to get out of, is simply not a good idea.

I had some epic melts 15 years ago, and to a lesser degree 9 years ago. This is a walk in the park by comparison.

I don't know what people are whinging about. We'll still beat Melbourne...and maybe Essendon.
Maybe this weekend with a shock unexpected win who knows with maybe Mayne and C.Pearce dropped and pav rested.

Can I melt slightly about a player I really like.

Something about the way Neale is playing doesnt feel 100% great effort at times. I still think he is a gun and will play 200+ for us but I feel he could do a little more.

The melting has being bigger than I imagine.

Disclaimer: I wasn't even in Australia during the cold dark days of Fremantle 1.0, and I only started following footy in 2010 - so I haven't been around when the team has been on a downward slide. I have only ever been on Big Footy during a period when we were more up than down, and I haven't the time nor inclination to go back hundreds of pages to read for myself what those bad years were like.

Which is why I am kind of disappointed at all the vitriol that's been splashed over the Fremantle board about our "shit" playing group, our "incompetent" coaching team, and our "hopeless" club. I am particularly disappointed by all the crap laid on players like their past service has counted for absolutely nothing. Is this what it's normally like when Fremantle is on the downswing? Is this meant to be some kind of coping mechanism?

Before I get sniped at for being a "rah-rah Fremantle supporter" with rose-colored glasses who is drunk on the Kool Aid just because I refuse to get my pitchfork out, let me say - I AM JUST AS PISSED OFF AS THE REST OF YOU ABOUT HOW OUR PLAYERS HAVE GONE ABOUT IT THIS YEAR. The skills are shit - we have collectively forgotten how to hit targets, for one thing - and some players are clearly at a stage where they are on the verge of being pushed out due to poor performances and perhaps the fact that the game has passed them by. I'm not going to name names as everyone is happy to raise their own scapegoat - but would it be too much to ask from supporters who are meant to support to at least be respectful in bagging them?

It is possible to have a negative or critical opinion and be measured about it (see E Shed as an example) without hanging shit on players who have literally bled and sweated and been injured for your entertainment and for your pleasure the last four years. Sure we didn't get what we wanted - that elusive flag - but surely the fact that this group has given us more highs than lows this last year - with some of them winning games off their own backs at one point or another - deserves a little more respect.

No, they're not sacred cows - by all means, criticize them - but the tone of some posts and the nitpicking is just uncalled for. I get that it's cathartic for people to butcher their escaped goat (most with good reason, probably) over and over again, but it's just so hard to read and it just makes this place a morose and an unpleasant place to be.

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.
