How the **** have we allowed things to get to this???

Firstly, the Steves can just **** off back to whatever hole they crawled out of. From the minute they took over we have gone backwards. they got rid of our jumper, tried to get rid of our song and have generally just sucked the guts out of the club for their own self aggrandizement.

Lyon is ******* useless, has never won a flag and never will with his boring game style. He has tried to change but has no ******* idea about football. The aim of the game is to SCORE GOALS you ******* muppet, not restrict the opposition. And while we're at it, how about leaving a forward in the forward line every now and then just to give the fans a bit of a laugh. FML!

Sumich should just **** off back to the Eagles where he belongs. He had one or two seasons where he was spoon fed by a virtual state side and kicked a few goals. So ******* what? Does that qualify him as a coach? I don't thinks so, and if he was any good do you think the scum would have let him come across to us? I reckon they figured out here's a way to **** the Dockers up for the next ten years, let's send them a hack coach - sort of like what Collingwood did toCarlton with Malthouse.

Who the **** is our stoppages coach? whoever it is they couldn't help us beat a Gold Coast midfield missing 6 (SIX) if their best midfielders, and we are supposed to have a strong midfield.

We bought in some Hawthorn IP this year in Hale and Guerra, fat lot of ******* good that has done. Our skills have gone from poor to ******* DIABOLICAL under these supposedly skills based coaches. Give me a ******* break, I could kick better than some of the useless hacks running around there, and that is without input from the highly skilled coaches!

How the **** did Mundy end up as captain? Is this an indication that our players' voting IQ is right up there with their footy smarts? FMD the guy has gone from a pretty good midfielder to a captain who leads by example, and you can see what that example is. Lope around at half pace, get caught with the ball and if by some chance you do find yourself in the open, kick it to the ******* opposition!

What the **** is with all the injuries? The strength and conditioning guys must be getting their strategies of Google, because whatever the **** they are doing is just plain ******* WRONG! We have guys legs snapping, collarbones flying apart, ribs throwing themselves at lungs - can't these pricks teach our players to keep their bones in place during games? If not, WTF are they good for?

I'm not going to go through every player individually because I only have a couple of hours spare, some of them just need to be called out for the purulent discharge they are serving up week after week dressed up as football.

Suban, WTF????? This guy has done more for opposition teams than all the umpires combined, and that is saying something. He has a side-step that would not get him off a railway line on the nullarbor, and the footy smarts of a deformed amoeba that has been on hard drugs all its life. Add Mzungu, DeBoer, Sheridan, Suttcliffe, Spurr, Crozier and a whole bunch of others, mash their brains together and you may end up with the footy brain of a Tyrone Vickery. At a pinch.

Don't get me started on spud Dawson! The guys gives half-wits a bad name, and is as co-ordinated as a one-legged giraffe after the marula fruit have ripened. His only value to the team is that occasionally one of his flailing stick-limbs happens to collect an opposition player and they are injured. The added bonus is that he usually gets suspended which immediately strengthens the team - or it would if we had a footballer to replace him with.

Clarke? What is the ******* go with this campaigner? He gets chance after chance to prove himself and every time he puts in a ******* pathetic, useless, quarter-hearted (that's half as good as half half-hearted) effort. When you watch him play you sometimes wonder if he's still coming off that Falls Festival high and he's seeing a huge ball with dripping yellow teeth, because he's certainly absolutely ******* terrified that the ball might somehow come near him and ******* BITE him! Lucky for him it is rarely within biting distance.

Griffin and Hannath could not run out of sight in a week, neither of then could jump over one of Cam McCarthy's cigarettes, and they keep getting games because Bond - don't ******* call him Bondy you ******* sycophants - would not know how to recruit a decent ruckman so we have nobody better. How the **** did we put 6 years into developing Moller as the up and coming ruckman then just when he started to show a bit we **** him off??? AND keep Hannath and Clark - these guys have no ******* clue.

Stephen Hill is a soft as o pensioner's turd just before pension day when they have had to live on cat food for a few days. If we pay more a 5th round draft pick for his soft, downHILL skiing brother I will microwave my membership card after bricking it first. The only way I would get Brad Hill is if Hawthorn take a package of Suban, DeBoer, Mzungu, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Spurr, Clarke and Hannath - then I'd throw in our first round pick as thanks.

We are a club without soul, it has been ripped from us buy those ******* campaigning Steves, Bond, LLoyd, Sumich and all the rest of the ******s that call themselves management and coaches. We will never win ANYTHING with that prick Lying at the helm and this year is the start of a VERY dark period in the club's history. The next 10 years will make the late 90's and early 2000's look like the renaissance.

Nah, just kidding. We'll be fine next year.

Just had my wife read this. She cried with laughter so hard she nearly choked. Well played, sir.

Starting to lose faith in Ross Lyon. What exactly is our forward structure, why don't we have one? Unless we are foxing for draft picks it is the definition of insanity to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.

The kick inside 50 is the most important kick of any passage of play. Getting the ball 70~80m out and bombing it to the cold spot 15~25m out to 3 or 4 blokes running in from all directions and hoping they can improvise something just doesn't work. We almost never go for a short option when we're going forward. We need some blokes to play a traditional half-forward role. Take the ball closer to the forward 50 arc, drag the defenders up, clear some space for the deep forwards to lead into, and try to hit them up with a precise pass.

If a dumb campaigner like me can see it, why can't Ross? We must be tanking..

At least Mayne try.

Our game plan:

If you have the ball in a maul from a stoppage handball it to a player within a maximum of 2m. Continue to handball in this manner until either the chain of handballs gets to 11 or the opposition win the ball back, whatever happens first. If the chain gets to 11 the receiving player must then kick it. Blindly if possible.
If you get the ball in the clear or after a mark, if you don't see a very safe option within 30m up the ground straight away then pass the ball sideways, or better still backwards.
If you don't have the ball, run behind the line of the player with the ball so as to create a safe option for them.

Other than that I couldn't see anything that resembled some form of organised strategy or planning out there today.

what a steaming pile of shit we delivered today, what a ****ing disgrace we are that we cant even honor a club champion. Ive being shut down before but the biggest mistake this year was appointing mundy as captain, if fyfe got captaincy our season would have being totally different

I'll ****ing give a melt for the ****ing ages.

Those ****ing pissant fluros aren't fit to wear the umpires shirt. Bunch of ****ing blind maggots who forgot their ****ing guide dogs today. OPSM is beneath them and so is ****ing specsavers. Maybe give them a boot up the arse and deport the ****ers.....preferably to Russia on a one-way ticket.

As for us, we rolled over and took it up the arse today. Never have I seen a team with no passion, no heart, no footy smarts, no ****ing structure or anything resembling the basics needed to play this great game of Australian Rules Football.

Pav's 350th and you serve up that shit Freo. That can **** off and all.

As for Channel 7...those vic-centric ****ing morons wouldn't understand a ****ing big occasion if it stared them in the face. Refusing to show Pavlich being chaired off....you can ****ing piss off and die....better still.....hand back the TV rights...you ****ing disgusting pigs.

All those that keep going on about Mundy as captain one of the worst decisions ever made, really: What about, amongst others:
Passing on the McGovern brothers
Passing on Jack Darling
Appointing Drum and Connolly as coaches
Drafting Pitt and Simpson
Not bothering to develop a ruck option to take over from Sandi in how many years

Key words bolded

theres a certain thing called a psychological edge we lost it when we put mundy in as captain, guy doesnt know how to mentally inspire his team mates like pav could and i believe fyfe can in the future

There is a thread on the Richmond board discussing an article by Matthew Lloyd criticising Damien Hardwick on the way he is using Jack Riewoldt up the ground.

"The issues are not with Jack's form, the problem is that Damien Hardwick doesn't utilise Jack Riewoldt like he should. Jack is arguably the best inside-50 player in the game but he just doesn't play there enough and it just doesn't make sense to me."
"I rate Riewoldt as good as the Suns' Tom Lynch. Lynch is currently playing in a similar fashion to what Riewoldt was when he was 22. Lynch is a colossus above his head, is a reliable kick for goal and also a ruthless competitor. Lynch works up the ground at times but always remains close enough to goal to be a presence and put the fear of god into opposition defenders."

We are playing Taberner in the same way that Richmond are playing Riewoldt . FFS we go into a game with one KPF and he is regularly getting possessions on the half back flank. When I see other teams forwards in the backline getting marks it's like - fill yer boots - have as many as you like back there. Taberner is best marking when running towards the ball. We don't see this enough forward because he spends too much time up the ground. We would be better just playing another mid if this is how we are going to play him.

Lyon said a few years ago that we needed to to increase our scoring by a few goals a game. Well this never happened as we have kept with the up and back defensive basketball style of play. It's a pipe dream without some form of blood doping.

The concern I have with defensive style of play is the stats. Over the last 25 years the flag has been won by attacking oriented teams 5 times as much as defensive oriented teams.

Also Pearce got a bollocking but whose decision was it to allocate him the duty for kicking in ? That's who should be getting the bollocking.
Totally agree. Tabs get solid leads on the wing, the mids then ignore him (quite often), forcing him to then turn around and go back I50. When he goes in, he's knackered and has two defenders to contest against. In any other team, Tabs would be on 25 or more goals if used properly. The hard work he is forced to do for little reward is damning. Is it the 'Pav-centric' obsession Freo has had for so long? Because right now Matt isn't looked at as a confident target and instead bombing the ball high and long to Pav with 2-3 defenders. Atm he is on 18 goals, having only being held scoreless three times. Who knows, maybe with Apeness/Tabs/McCarthy that will change and hopefully he gets to realize his potential.
Josh Kennedy, as an example, is similar in size and height and leads towards the player forcing a one-on-one or using speed to evade his defenders. Taberner should be doing that with his tank and burst he has as well.

Not bothering to develop a ruck option to take over from Sandi in how many years

Our general development of players compared to some of the other clubs is pour, Hawks, Sydney, Adelaide prime examples, they seem to be able to pick players and develop them over two three seasons, ours don't ever seem to get to the next level, Walters and Fyfe excluded.
As far as rucks go Sandi has been the linchpin for so long that players below stagnate. Clarke looked a real good shot in 2013, Moller stood at the back que behind Hannath and griff and just as he started to show consistency was gone. We have gone for bash and barge rucks when most clubs are now going for athletic leapers.
All in all very hard to replace one of the top 5 rucks of all time. Just my opinions.

Watching us bomb the ball high to Pav and him being man-handled to the point where all he can do is flimsily put his hands in the air as the loose man infront marks it uncontested time and time again absolutely kills me.

I wasn't even angry, I was just sad. I'm so sorry you had to go through this year Pav <3

CONGRATULATIONS to the AFL for rule changes that have opened up our game, even if they just made Fremantle’s chances of winning this year’s flag a whole lot harder.

In fact, I don’t think the Dockers can win it.

All teams have an off day at one point in the season so it’s not because of what I saw last weekend. I have a great deal of respect for coach Ross Lyon and what his Dockers teams have produced over the past few years with their manic and frenzied brand of football.

They play it harder than anyone else, putting so much pressure around the ball and forcing teams to kick back to their spare, normally Michael Johnson, a plan that worked for five years.

Being harder and better around the contest is still “Footy 101” and that won’t ever change, but the game is changing.

The reduction of interchange rotations to 90 and fewer stoppages means the men in purple must adapt and take on a more attacking game plan.

It’s a hard way to play football. Even when they were really good they seemed to run out of puff the longer the season went on because of the mental and physical exhaustion it takes to maintain that game style all year.

Football in Round 1 looked a lot more open so you could see the skills of someone like Paddy Dangerfield, bursting from stoppages rather than being forced to jam the ball on his boot.

We saw the talents of players, which is such a plus for the game.

You got to see why players were recruited as they showcased their abilities — that they can really run, can use both feet and use their smarts around the contest.

The direction footy is heading doesn’t suit the Dockers. They will have to adapt because I don’t think their game plan will stand up.

And if players are on the burst then the ball gets down quicker to forwards, allowing a super talent like Jake Stringer to mesmerise his opponent one-out.

For the past five years, if you could win your own ball then that was good enough because there wasn’t much else to it as we lost the skill of the game a bit.

The VSFL and VFL will start playing the same way as the AFL and you will see more attractive football across the country.

The direction footy is heading doesn’t suit the Dockers.

They will have to adapt because I don’t think their game plan will stand up. They will have to tweak their game to help them score more to be competitive.

Up forward Matthew Pavlich didn’t really look like he was running on top of the ground against the Western Bulldogs and everything you thought he might be at age 34, he was.

From the outside it looks like he might have been forced to go on because there was no one ready to replace him and he’s a talent that can’t really be replaced. I hope I’m wrong, but it could be a long year for him.

Footy being more open will take a huge toll on players and may shorten careers, so list management during the season will become vital to achieve success.

That means it’s even more important to have a great start to the season and win enough early games so you can rest some players when you are 8-1.

The teams that are 3-6 or 4-5 won’t have that luxury and will have to pick their best players week after week just to make the top eight.

In 2011 under Chris Scott, we won our first 13 straight at Geelong.

We initially focused on winning our first four games against beaten grand finalists St Kilda, Fremantle in Perth, Port Adelaide and Sydney at the SCG.

Then you can start to control your own destiny. One week off in footy is almost as good as a holiday and the benefits from it are huge.

Naturally I get asked about Geelong and how the Cats are placed for a run at it this year.

I commentated for K-Rock last week and left feeling that they would only get better when they developed 100 per cent trust and jelled with the new faces.

The Geelong-Hawthorn game was a perfect example of blokes getting tired and making more mistakes.

Even though Geelong led clearly after dominating the first half, I knew the Hawks would get to get back into the game, not just because they are a great team but because the rule changes helped them.

Geelong worked a lot harder than Hawthorn in the first half and used up a lot more petrol tickets, so naturally Hawthorn’s third quarter was not just indicative of the champion team that they are, but they also had fresher legs.

In the end it came down to who wanted it the most. In the last quarter you could see guys needing to gut run and will themselves to get the job done.

That was Geelong, but it was the perfect showcase for how we want football to be played. Fantastic to watch. Long may it continue

Midfield make the Eagles mids look like a Rolls Royce. Got plenty of it but just terrible out of the centre.
