Only after he played under Ross. He was a good WAFL player before he had all the instincts and skill coached out of him. Mayne and Ibbo were once good players.

Sorry but Mayne played his best footy under Ross, so too Ibbo.

And Duffy was never a good WAFL player. Before being drafted by Freo, while on our list, or after.

Yes and no really. It's such a problem for us because Sandi is so dominant that it'd be ******* stupid to centre our strategy around losing the tap. It'll take an offseason and probably a decent chunk of games to adjust when he does finally go but I don't think it'll be that hapless.

Yeah probably a bit OTT. Right thread for it though. Sean Darcy might not have Sandi's size (who does?) but his tapwork looks very solid so hopefully we can make the transition as easily as you predict.

Anyway, to get back on track. Speaking of hapless, how about those Freo turdburglars? Those useless campaigners took a massive shit on the chevrons today, they should be made to wear them to bed tonight to remind them of how much they stank.

Duffy kicked 33 goals for East Freo before drafted by us. Never kicked near that many while at Peel. Hmmm?

Exactly my point on Mayne and Ibbo. Once good, then bad, and we turn on them but the coach escapes blame. They were good when the defensive game style was relevant but the club hasn't adapted and has thus been left behind.

It's not our personnel it's our gAmeplan as in we don't have one

Ross is struggling to adapt to the new AFL rules.

I noticed in the last few weeks old habits have crept in where players are more defensive.

Thats rubbish, Duffy was always a one way runner who didn't chase or tackle. Ibbo and Mayne both have had great career's and have got the best out of their ability's. The game goes past every one.

Yeah well we know how the 'would rather ten tackles then ten goals' worked out.

33 goals doesn't make him a good player. He was a soft front runner who did absolutely nothing defensively and was fed his goals on a platter. Had 6 tackles in that entire season!

Even our own supporters only value tackles and pressure acts now. What pressure has Suban ever applied? You need a balanced list of match winners and role players and Ross values the latter.

Took the game 17 seasons to catch Pav.

Forwards can last much longer. Its a lot harder to play in the midfield/defense, and if Pav didn't do defensive duties under Ross he would have lasted even longer.

Duffy was shit. I watched him at WAFL level after being delisted and he kicked bugger all goals and struggled to plsy 4 quarters.

Agree re match winners but my point stands about Duffy and he certainly was no match winner. He was super inconsistent with the gap between his best and worst enormous. Even the stereotypical match winners need some level of input on a consistent basis at AFL and certainly need to have a defensive side to their game. Duffy didn't have that and Freo tried to develop it so he could make it at the next level but he was unable to.

And I know that this easily could be true. The point was that forwards do not thrive under the defensive systems of Ross. The best forward we have drafted and developed under six years of Ross is Crozier. Let that sink in.

We both know you have no idea, but even for you that's classic horseshite.
Pav's first AA from memory was as a backman, then midfielder, then forward.
Most of this was way before Lyon.

I wonder how much of that is players not having confidence in their own skills, being down on confidence in their team-mates skills, so leads don't get honoured and eventually players stop leading - all adds up to slow and stagnant play, kick it long to a contest type of stuff. While our opposition do the exact opposite.

If you watched Lyons teams you noticed that at some point burn out occurs. The game plan is extremely taxing on players and Pav having to be more defensive at an older age had a potential compounding effect.

Yes this is playing an impact as well.

However, I still feel the game plan isn't helping either. Ross has built his whole reputation on defense and even stated this year he would go back to what he knows. Problem is that there is no balance and so players are left confused and exposed badly.

Okay so I am confused :(
You mention Gameplan...What exactly is the game plan in your opinion??
I actually think we have tried to be more attacking this year than previous, just lack the skills to pull it off :(

I think that's exactly it.
We don't have nearly enough polish and good users by foot on our list.

"Brennan Cox played. I think he showed some footy nous and Luke Ryan in his second game, he shows he can kick the ball. We’d like more players who can kick the ball well and distribute it well because they let you flow, and probably and bit of leg speed as well."

Please get fit Harley Bennell.

Harley bennell is not the answer, fagan with a bunch of kids with fewer superstar win the match , sort out your players and tweak your game plan to suite the young individual who is available.

Not THE answer but he is certainly a component of it.

Injured like more than 1 1/2 year . You are not asking him to chanse opponent and tackle straight away are you? One step at a time , play with peel without any problem then think about bennell . Other team like Brisbane and Carlton will continue to rebuild whether with or without their superstar.
