West Aussies? Your a fn twat loydy. A lot of the good players are going to want the big bucks or home. How the **** will we afford that. And there will never be another Weller deal. That was gc. The clubs drafting needs to be reviewed.

Why is Fremantle both obsessed with rucks and allergic to fast and agile tall guys (over 195cm)?
How the **** are we going to fit all these slow moving objects amongst three teams (Freo, Peel, Peel Reserves) and what impact will it have on both their development and the development of our KPFs and other forwards? Do our players really develop at all playing Peel Reserves?
Sandi (211cm), Darcy (202cm), Strnadica (201cm), Meek (202cm), Jones (205cm), Apeness (200cm), Pearce (200cm), Taberner (198cm), Dixon (196cm).
We now have 9 guys on our list over 195cm and not one of them is fast or agile and 8 of whom can only play either ruck or forward. We've complained forever about not developing a decent KPF since Pavlich (drafted in 1999 - 18 years ago) and yet we clog up our development side year after year with too many rucks.
I don't think it's a coincidence Taberner played so well at WAFL level this year because for once Peel's forward line wasn't always clogged with 2 or 3 "reserve" rucks plus him. I think Darcy, his, and even Strnadica's development benefitted considerably from us (unfortunately) sustaining long term injuries to Apeness, Clarke and Sandi (and others).
At a time when plenty of clubs are playing just one true ruck and sacrificing the tap when they are resting, it bewilders me that we now have 8 on our list, when playing any more than 2 of them at a time likely makes your side far too slow and cumbersome. The development of our backline benefitted in the past two years because we played a similar composition at Peel. Why aren't we doing that with our forward line?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Dixon pick and really like Meek and Jones as players but unless we continue to have an endlessly long injury list I think we will stunt all their development and continue to never address our primary KPF issue.

We just got rid of Clark, Griffin and Uebergang and then replaced them!! What's the issue? Plus we don't know if Apeness is going to even going to play again in reality

So your counter argument is we needed to replace two players who were injured the entire season plus Griffin who we couldn't even fit in the WAFL Grand Final side (along with Strnadica)? We got two rucks last year, who did they replace if it wasn't Clarke, Griffin and Sandi?
I thought we did quite well at the draft but I can guarantee us Peel followers will be once again be complaining that the forward line is way too tall and therefore not operating effectively next year.
Pissed that we took Brayshaw at 2.... there seems to be minimal upside, minimal chance of being a star. This is perhaps balanced by the potential upside of Cerra, but why we didn't go LDU or Dow at 2 is beyond me. I feel like Brayshaw will hit his peak a little earlier than the others and then settle into being a B to B+ performer consistently. All teams need those types of players, but do we need one at pick 2?
The leadership tag is fairly overrated also. Leadership is a skill that can be taught and developed over time. Leadership is one of the least required traits in a draftee. Application shouldn't be confused with leadership either. I have no doubt that he has the application, I do question if he has any standout skill or Xfactor. Very vanilla and very disappointing pick in my mind.
As he is a freo player I hope he proves me wrong, this pick reminds me of palmer, and I expect we will get a couple of good to excellent seasons from him for a year 1-3 player and then his development will stall. B - B+ player. Bloody disappointed.

I think some of them will play Peel reserve , if not there will be some ovee 100 point trashing for Peel .

Picking a player because he wants to play for us is pure stupidity.
You pick the best available player at the time and then hope he would drop to pick 5 which looked likely.
Sorry just clarification - you said 8 that can only play ruck or forward? I only count 7 - Both Pearce and Dixon have played as backmen.
Do you seriously think we'll want to play Dixon as a defender? We could play all of them as defenders in reality but that's not going to improve our B22 at either Freo or Peel. It's more likely that we play Alex Pearce forward than any of those guys as defenders. We've recruited Dixon as a KPF - that's why we picked him @ #42. If we have to play him as a defender because we can't fit him in the forward line then that only further highlights my point.
I'm expecting we'll pick up another defender in the rookie draft as well (maybe Chris Scott). I wouldn't mind Krueger as well who can play as a defender or forward but not sure we'll use both rookie spots on talls.
This is the melt thread... I'm happy to be proven wrong come next year but anyone that has seriously tracked the development of our youngsters at Peel in recent years knows how less effective the forward line was when we played too many talls just for the sake of fitting them in - and that does impact the development of all our forwards so I'm pretty annoyed about it. And it's the only thing I'm annoyed about from this draft.

It's not a whinge, I want us to win a premiership and to do that we need to develop our talls better than we have been. I love these posters that can't handle any criticism of our football club, even if it is done logically and respectfully. What's hilarious is when they respond with really immature rebuttals rather than providing any sensical argument other than "these guys do this for a living as if anyone should be able to question anything they do".
I'm not flawless in my line of work, and have to deal with dumb people suggesting things all the time, most of which is utter stupidity but sometimes they alert me to something I could do differently to get a better outcome. If we can't question things why are any of us on here? I want to have lively debates not immature name calling hiding behind their keyboards.

So explain in logical terms how Brayshaw is less of a footballer than Dow or LDU. Don't base your argument on dem feels
Why does that have anything to do with me? I haven't said anything about the Brayshaw and Cerra picks on here. I really like the picks - I would have been happy with any combination of the best 5 players (would have been fine with Stephenson, Fogarty or Naughton even). I've only talked about having too many one dimensional talls on our list impacting the Peel forward line and therefore the development of our forwards.
