True and so is reading post after post of negativity from a poster. It wears thin. People get cautioned or posts deleated for responding to him in various ways while the anti Ross posting continues.

We haven't even played round 1 yet and Ross is ruining the club
Lol. Criticism of a couple of selections is not inherently criticism of Lyon. Having said that, do you accept that sometimes criticism of a head coach is warranted and even healthy if done correctly (obviously not by randoms on the internet ofcourse). What do you think I think of Lyon? Let me go ahead and answer for you. He is without question the best coach we have had and have access to. Despite that, he can still make absolutely rank choices with regards to team selection that are not only probably wrong, but have in fact been proven to be wrong as recently as round 3 last year. They were wrong then and they are wrong now and supporters of this club have a right to air their grievances.

Not sure I understand why its a problem if its left in one thread. Who cares? People don't have to read it.
Better to let people get it out of their system.
But thats just my opinion. If people get upset about it then whatever.

You don't understand the problem with pages of people calling each other names and generally acting like petulant children? This is a board viewed by many, many people, most of whom aren't interesting in seeing melodramatic spats. They want to read genuine footy related discussion.

Alright, back to the melts. I've explained my position well enough.

You are a far superior being to me and way more mature, have a laugh.

Yeh but constant carping on the same subject isn't a melt its just plain boring. Melts should have a modicum of fact and at least a smidgeon of humour.

I for one am certain that D Pearce/Sheridan/Sutcliffe will provide that line breaking run and laser boot off half back we so desperately require.
Would probably play Hughes and Crowden above DPearce and Sutty - Sheridan not even an emergency. The original poster was claiming DPearce took Hamlings spot. Just does not compute!

The match committee obviously decided to go two talls with Ryan a third option. I’m sure opposition analysis has revealed they are susceptible to runners off half back. The decision would have been MJ and AP over Hamling, not DPearce over Hamling.

Hughes probably not quite ready to go. Crowden would make it three debutants and has yet to earn a senior call up. Cerra is still building, North will need to stack a few performances, Logue still building - pressure for spots is building - but not quite yet.

It takes a minute to think through selection criteria - so sometimes (always) it’s just easier to say Ross has no idea. Our kids are building and developing well. They are happy and extending contracts. WTF else could any club want. We just smashed a finalist from last year and are riding a high. Port have underdone mids that we’ll run ragged in the heat - DPearce and Sutty can do that better than the kids. It’ll be worth more than their usual turnovers. THE TIME HAS COME to win some games! What’s next? Calling for no Ballantyne because he’s old? F**K THAT! AINT NOBODY TAKING OUR DARLING AWAY FROM US! THIS IS THE MELT THREAD

Its why we have a melt thread FFS. So you don't have to moderate so much in other threads. People can let off steam here.
I for one am horrified at Hamling being omitted.
Completely agree.... isn’t this the place for melts. As much as I love Ross the hamling decision makes no sense and leaves us vulnerable if their mids get on top.

Watching Danyle is going to be painful, somewhat balanced by the fact we are debuting two first gamers, and we have Matera and Wilson debuting. There is no logic in playing Danyle, as much as he wasn’t terrible in JLT2 he was at best average. And in JLT1 he was abysmal. When the game is tight early he will turn the ball over and be a liability. It’s a bloody lock.

Pissed about Hamling.. hopefully he is back in next week. He and Pearce are our long term spine.

it just seems weird that people feel they need to come to the melt thread and enforce board groupthink/orthodoxy.
if you can't lose your shit here to let off steam where can you?
and M_rash I didn't even mention Pearce or anyone else in my thread yet you felt you needed to correct me.
All I said was I'm horrified Hamling was left out.

I should have scrolled back a few pages to quote Ydraw but couldn’t be stuffed. He specified D.Pearce and MJ over Hamling but no AP. And I have learnt not to quote him directly unless you want to engage in pages of out of context, part quoted arguments. He’s a bit like Tabs, loves the contested side of it, but a bit slow in the general play :moustache:

Why is the number of players on debut a relevant factor? They are either the superior footballers (fitness included) or they aren't. I expect the best side to be put forward and that is it. We all KNOW that that isn't Pearce and Sutcliffe even after taking into consideration fitness/knowledge of structure etc.

We all watched the games last year. Hamling spent most of his time saving our midfielders asses. What did Johnson do?

I can understand going with 2 talls to try to outrun an underdone Port and it is a good and viable strategy. Someone please explain to me how old man Johnson helps us achieve that though (without mentioning his kicking skills last seen in 2014).

No Hamling?! He was coming along nicely, maybe he didnt hit some personal targets at training or something. Seems nuts though.

How was he during the last JLT2 game? I dont remember people saying much about him.

Yep, that's fair. I don't think people should come into this thread solely to have a go at melters they deem to be "mindless haters", just as I wouldn't condone people doing the same to the alleged "kool-aid brigade" in other threads. If everyone responded to each post on its merits then we'd never have an issue, although I understand that's a bit idealistic when emotion is involved and our ingroup/outgroup tendencies begin to seep out.

The news report I heard said he was battling groin soreness. Hopefully find out more tomorrow.

He's our best defender so it's definitely a touch concerning

Yep that was my understanding as well. They have picked the fittest available team, not the best team which would be boosted by S Hill, Hamling, Logue and even Bennell.

If Hamling has groin issues then why name him as an emergency?

Checkmate.
Yeah this is the strange part... if he is being held over due to soreness fair enough. On form or pure selection, it makes no sense at all.

If he didn’t travel it makes no sense to name him as an emergency unless he is good to play. Very strange.
