We really play badly on narrow grounds. Bigger grounds seem to suit us. Expecting a better showing next week.

We need some class in the side. Sooner we can fast track Cerra the better.
Eh? Subi is narrow and we have a very healthy record at Geelong.

Our problem is that both Adelaide teams have been flat trackers or better ever since we got **** and routinely flog us. I'd only be worried about us having a poor record when we are good again - (like our Hawthorn one from 2012-2015).

We have been adding Class since 2015, but removing the guys who roll up their sleeves and get dirty.
Freo need some balance, skilled team without heart was GWS, why do you think Deboer, Mz found a
home, same with Barlow, Silvagni.

That 2013-2015 era is a different side. We seem to play the G well with our current players. We played Joondulup really well. We struggled at Subi last year. We struggle badly in Adelaide.

I agree to an extent but turnovers killed us on Saturday. I was just picturing Cerra streaming towards F50 instead of DPearce.

We almost rolled Geelong in Geelong last year. I am guessing whatever ground we played GWS at last year wasn't massive either (it may be I just assume that).

We play that ground and team well. We play the Adelaide sides (and seemingly the AO) very poorly.

How absolute trash is our record at Adelaide oval?
https://afltables.com/afl/venues/adelaide_oval.html
1 win and 6 losses now with a measly 50% (estimating as port game isn't updated yet)

Yet Eagles go over there and are 6-1 and the best win % there

Dreading having to return there next season.

That 1 win was the last game of our 9 game run in 2015 when Fyfe went Beast mode, we rested players the next match at AO and we've been shit since then (beat Port at subi in 2016) while Adelaide and Port (in 2017 and likely this year) have been very good teams since then, so not really sure if this is that damning. Being utterly shit for large periods since then is pretty damning though.

I guess it's neither here nor there, it's difficult to prove either way. But I feel teams with dominant KPF play better on smaller grounds. For example, McGovern is more dominant on Subi because there is less space to cover while at the MCG, he will find it harder to play loose because there is simply more space for players to lead into.

In the context of our team, since we don't have dominant KPF, at the MCG there is more space for our mobile forwards to run into and it is a lot easier to create 1 on 1 contests. At smaller grounds, the forwards often run into each others space and since we don't have super marking threats, we struggle. I feel that we will play quite well at the MCG as there is more running required to take marks inside 50 as opposed to taking contested marks on narrower grounds due to the congestion.

I know we did well against Geelong last year but that is my gut feel.

All these comments about ‘groundhog day’ make me wonder what people used to say before the film Groundhog Day actually came out.

I guess we weren’t a team before that film came out, so no one in the whole wide world ever had cause to say it
They used to say and still do 'Same $hit different bucket'.

Bring on Crowden!

Think Brady Grey with good disposal, manic pressure and can side step tackles and set up plays.

F*** it, bring in Brady Grey while we're at it. I'm sick of these players watching their player take possession of the ball and guarding space around them instead of you know, chasing them!
And Wtf is Tabs doing in the centre circle FFS!

Has Harves got a Ross Lyon mask? Or has Lyon lost it that rapidly?

I had the theory last year that we were working on our new game plan early to suit Optus Oval. Just after we started playing the kids, we were playing pretty well interstate, but our game plan wasn't working at all on the narrow Subi oval.

Amazing how one win makes the melts evaporate. I hope I see less and less of this thread as the year rolls on.
Take it to the positivity thread thanks m8

This thread when we lose:

Ross is behind the ball tampering scandal
Ross expelled the Russians
Menegnola should still be here
RTB is a Nazi because of his press conferences
Ross has 0 clue on how to select and develop youth
Ross gets selection / game-plan interventions from his wife and the leadership group

When we win:

They're talking about Dixon.

Who'd have thought people would be satisfied with getting what they want.

He is required to give press conferences win or lose. To have a tanty and basically refuse when we lose is disrespectful to fans.

But he's had many press conferences just like that win or lose across his coaching career yet now since one person brought it up because they weren't satisfied - it gets over-examined by select few and the conclusion is it's "disrespectful to the fans" . Which it wasn't, and he's never been.

Yes, it is, whether he realises it or not. Seems to me that Ross sees the press conferences as a battle between him and journos, who he has no respect for. But press conferences aren't for journos. They are for fans.
