I get touted on here as a Lyon apologist, I'm not and I don't care if he stays or goes but if by some chance he is moved on some of the candidates mentioned on here are laughable. We went from Neesham to Drum to Connolly in our previous lives . How did that all work out. Lyon has been our best coach by a country mile and if he goes we need the best possible replacement. Knee jerk reactions never work out.

maybe,
but something is seriously wrong.
with our supposedly elite midfield & the most dominant tap ruckman of the past 15 years, we have lost home games to two teams who would be in the bottom 3 for midfield quality in the league!
we win more centre clearances than we lose, only to kick it to an undermanned forward line, thus allowing the opposition to rebound on the spread.
shit weekend of footy

Nah you won't leave, nothing good ever happens to me.;)

PS have you forgiven Dylan for going electric yet.
I'd still hang around BigFooty anyway. With the $3K I'd save, I could even get a better computer, which would encourage me to post more.

It doesn't make economic sense to hang onto my membership when I can't get to a Sunday twilight game without having Monday off work and it looks like there are going to be a lot of those games for quite some time.

I've never been a big Dylan fan. Hurricane is pretty much the only song of his I like.

We have won something like 16 out of the last 54 matches or less than 30%. That is unacceptable really.

Stats can tell you anything to fit the narrative. We know 2016 was abhorrent. If we include 2015, then it looks a lot more healthy. If we look from 2017, we have won 12, lost 20. Not great, but what you would expect when rebuilding. With another list overhaul at the end of the season (our last), we will probably win 8-10 games this year and 10-12 next year. The main thing for me is we have plenty of talent around the edges and some great up and coming midfielders, we just need some strong players forward of center.

Taberner finally looks to be a player we can rely on but unfortunately got injured. Cox is developing nicely but far too raw - and also needs to keep developing aspects of his game.

We desperately need a medium forward that can apply pressure to replace Ballantyne. Ballantyne is really hurting our structure IMO because you just can't kick the ball to him without it rebounding back 80% of the time, even when he is in position. Bennell would be handy but probably won't have the confidence in his legs to provide too much forward pressure for a good 12 months at least.

Although I agree you can make stats tell you anything, by even adding 2015 where we finished top (to even out 2016) we have won 33 out of 78 or 42% which for a 4 year sample of high/lows for a perceive top notch coach still isn't good enough.

Whats wrong is the forward half. As has been pointed out we are lacking experienced tall KF's who can clunk a mark . Put Kennedy and Darling in our forward line and pow success. We have to be patient and wait for the young talls and the injured to return. Tabs, a fit Apeness or Darcy return and Cam plays that 3rd tall things will change. Cox is also getting valuable game time and Dixon looks the goods. We have plenty of young tall talent but none are on the park.

You have a great signature dude. Plus there's better songs than Hurricane.

Cox is on the park, but we're still playing Ballantyne as the deepest forward.

you could change the players names around and describe almost every year from 2015 on like that. Or even any game from that period.
We come out hard, look great, slow down, get uncertain & defensive and eventually players go into their shell, confidence evaporates.
Its this oft repeated pattern more than anything (and I started pointing it out in 2015 mostly getting ridiculed for it) that has me gradually losing enthusiasm for the current football dept regime.

I have been criticised as far back as 2015 as well when I was told I was 'ruining the fun of the season'- I mentioned S Hill because when he is fit he doesn't stop running and yesterday he could barely move. The rest I agree about and it is starting to rob my enthusiasm too.

Really? Surely not his choice if true?

I am happy either way tbh, going or staying. A new coach is like a draftee, all shiny and new. Could be the Fyfe of coaching or the *insert delisted spud here* of coaching.

Obviously all rumour. That said source is solid and hit nail on head frequently. Knows people in the medical department of the club but even they wouldn’t know all and just hear the rumours.

The word is they’d be staggered if he coaches past this year and that it is entirely Ross’ decision. Club is fully behind him.
Family priority despite them leaving him... apparently.

Starting to hear the ‘Ross is going to Carlton’ stuff outside of bigfooty now.

Talking to a bloke at the game today who claims to be friends with Patrick Cripps. Deal is already done and the players all know it.

Certainly explains the going through the motions game I saw today.

This should be in the positivity thread

I think Rosco knows he is a couple of beltings away from getting the ass and is setting up and coaching to avoid this happening which was supposedly why extending him after he drove the team bus off the cliff was a good idea so he could operate purely from a improvement perspective and not act out of a survival mentality

So the question is what has changed ?

Is the pressure coming more from inside the club or the supporters ?

It may just be a horses for courses approach with a few key players out which would be ok , shortsighted but maybe understandable

OR

He really believes this is the best way forward in which case we're all screwed himself included

In that case I do understand. Family first.

FFS the club has come out and said Freo are in a rebuilding mode and to expect ups and downs throughout the season and would be backing in the coaching staff through the tough times. 2020 was given as the time frame. If you haven't noticed its 2018 and the club is doing exactly what they said they would. Turn the list over and play the younger boys. A couple of older guys get a run for their experience because as we all know that playing to many kids will lead to smashings and is detrimental to kids development and the toys are thrown out the cot by some on here and its sack every one. What part of rebuilding don't you understand.

I quite often get confused reading your posts Salim and then I remember whom I have on ignore and it makes sense. To the point where I reckon I could guess the post you are responding to.

My advice is put them on ignore. It is nicer here when you do. Failing that, keep up the good fight. :thumbsu:

Do you think we'll make/be close to finals next year? That's essentially what the 2020 time-frame calls for.

Not many clubs out there rebuilding with 5 30+ guys playing regularly. I reckon if we lose Sandi (and Mundy) next year we'll be even worse. Bar perhaps Fyfe a 35 yr old yr old is our most important players in the midst of a rebuild. Pretty damning stuff that.

No Finals next year imo. 2020 we will be having a crack at finals, but won't be enough to save Ross

Sacking a coach should be like quitting a job. You only quit a job if you have a better alternative in place.

A better alternative at this point is not some green assistant coach sitting at <Insert last Premiers> working under <insert last premiership coach> like the media often like to espouse.

Lyon isn't doing a great job at the moment from what we can see but i can't see any better alternatives.

People talking like he has lost the players is nonsense. I was at the game on the weekend and the players were trying their guts out. They just lacked the right polish and structures.

What have you got against picking from assistant coaches? Hardwick, Bevo, Simpson (pretty much every coach tbh) was originally some 'green assistant coach.'
