Nah , Ballas is all over the park. Half forward , back pocket as well as being the deepest forward. All clubs sometimes have their small forward the deepest waiting for the Joe the goose.

Only problem for us is not a lot is getting out the back

Do you think we'll make/be close to finals next year? That's essentially what the 2020 time-frame calls for.

Not many clubs out there rebuilding with 5 30+ guys playing regularly. I reckon if we lose Sandi (and Mundy) next year we'll be even worse. Bar perhaps Fyfe a 35 yr old yr old is our most important players in the midst of a rebuild. Pretty damning stuff that.

Don't know were we will finish next year and guess what neither does any one else . Pearce and Johnno aren't playing regularly but never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Sandy and Mundy deserve their spot. Balla's maybe is a stretch but there isn't any one knocking down the door at Peel for his spot.
You forget to mention the 5 rookie debutants so far , the 2 inclusions from other clubs and the rest of the side with less than 50 games all playing this year. Giro, North and Strad will debut in the next couple of weeks. To me 8 or 9 rookies debuting in a season is pretty close to a rebuild. What do think ?

PS North who are supposedly in a rebuild had nil first year players in on Sunday.

I quite often get confused reading your posts Salim and then I remember whom I have on ignore and it makes sense. To the point where I reckon I could guess the post you are responding to.

My advice is put them on ignore. It is nicer here when you do. Failing that, keep up the good fight.

If the melts were contained to the melt thread I would agree with you. Unfortunately, they are not.

back in the 2013 - 2015 period where we were winning these criticisms about structure and scoring were way less and in that period yes we weren't the most attacking side in the comp but we still managed to put points enough points on the board to win. Obviously our Defense was our asset and the exciting for mine is that i think our Defense will be better in time than that teams one. My main worry for the last two season was that back then our midfield was filled with absolute monsters (Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow, Crowley, Sandi) however these last two drafts have eased that worry for mine. Darcy, Cerra and Banfield will all be fantastic replacements for Mundy, Sandi and Corwley and Brayshaw is different to Barlow but he brings a different dynamic than what Barlow bought us. I think the main thing that will improve us as midfield unit is when we don't need to rely on Neale. He plays his best footy when he's in and under popping out handballs to the monsters who then break free and either give it off to our runners (who are all upgrades on our old runners) or bang it down the line for a ball-up/throw in, repeat, repeat until we lock it in the f50 and stake time off the clock/will ourselves a goal.

We were tracking ok with Taberner in the side.

By the time Tabs is fit & healthy and slotted back into the side, the wheels will have completely fallen off the clubs performances and he'll be back to getting crucified (rightly or wrongly) for not straightening us up and generally mirroring the performance of the rest of the team.

Hard to disagree with you if you don't think we should be better next year/flag chances 2020. Otherwise I agree we'll steadily get rid of the oldies over 1-2 years and bring in yet more youth and end up fine in the end. Shame Fyfe/Walters will be 30/31 by the time we've got there on our current trajectory under Ross though.

We are definitely in a full rebuild mode and these are very hard timelines to predict or if they will be successful.

Done correctly and you can end up like the hawks from 2008-2015 or Richmond in 2017. However you have to remember the hawks started that rebuild in 2001 with Hodge & Mitchell. Richmond’s rebuild was built off Riewoldt 2006, Cotchin & Rance 2007 and Dusty 2009 so it takes about 10 years to see full rebuilds come good.

Carlton (00’s, current), GC/Bris/St Kilda (current), Melbourne (00’s) all tried full rebuilds and got it wrong.

We are definitely in that mound of complete rebuild so I think if we get it right the earliest we’ll be a threat again is around 2022. I have a lot of question marks over a number of players on our list so not yet convinced we have got it right.

What have you got against picking from assistant coaches? Hardwick, Bevo, Simpson (pretty much every coach tbh) was originally some 'green assistant coach.'

let other clubs take the punt on them. our record with selecting coaches is not great. We should simply do what we did with Lyon - identify a good coach and poach him. We are in the top 4-5 clubs for profit and revenue so any club below us is a target.

FFS the club has come out and said Freo are in a rebuilding mode and to expect ups and downs throughout the season and would be backing in the coaching staff through the tough times. 2020 was given as the time frame. If you haven't noticed its 2018 and the club is doing exactly what they said they would. Turn the list over and play the younger boys. A couple of older guys get a run for their experience because as we all know that playing to many kids will lead to smashings and is detrimental to kids development and the toys are thrown out the cot by some on here and its sack every one. What part of rebuilding don't you understand.
