This should be renamed the stupidity thread. Posters called for coaches heads last seasons for not playing the youngsters now the same posters are calling for heads because we lost games to finals aspirants playing the kids. What happened to the we will be happpy with 8 to 10 wins and we know it will get tough when the kids hit the wall but if Johnno,Pearce etc are gone and we play the kids we will take the losses. Hard to follow the reasoning of some on here.

Don't read the melt thread then.

If the thread was the stupidity thread, and someone was to come in here and abuse other posters for using the thread for its intended purpose, I wonder what that makes him? Stupider then stupid?

How about the fact it takes terrible mismanagement on multiple levels to bring a team to the point where you have to play 15 kids with no experience and not one person has been held accountable for it in any way whatsoever not even a club wide review ......... nothing

Its a rebuild, if you hadnt noticed the club has been pushing this all season. Its what the majority wanted ,how many posts where there of play the kids. Now its happened the weak arses on here cant go the distance. What the hell did you expect, instant success. Wasnt 2020 the time frame mentioned by the club. Werent we told to buckle up for the tough times.

I'm not talking about that and you know it , I'm talking about doing a rebuild with the same people who caused us to have to do it in the first place ...... it's crazy

Something only loser clubs tell their fans. Good clubs don't get into this situation in the first place. Which they avoid by constantly blooding new players rather than play the same half dozen role players at the expense of any youth, as Ross Lyon predictably did when he joined Fremantle.

players get old and retire or delisted in all clubs and clubs start again. I dont follow how players getting old can be avoided. The club has said its a rebuild , they are loading up with young talent, 3 top 10 picks in the last two drafts plus the Darcy,s, Cox etc. Explain what more could have been done. I,m really interested in your solution . If the youngsters improve with another pre season and the injured return fit and firing and the club hits the finals will you say the management has made the right choices. There is as much chance of that as another bust. Icant understand the angst when the club has outlined what is happening.
I undestand the impatience , we all want success but I,m the half glass full type ,youre the half empty but thats ok it takes all types to make up a footy club

Tell me a club that hasnt been were we are. Go back and look at the Hawks, they had some really tough years that nearly finished in amalagamation with Melbourne.. You make so much shit up to push your arguments Those role players as you call them got the club to a gf and our first top of the table finsh 2 seasons ago .

Tell me a club that hasnt been were we are.

Geelong, Sydney, Collingwood, West Coast, Adelaide, Port. Even Hawthorn the last time they were shit was over a decade ago with a different coach.

Now let me list the clubs that have "rebuilds"

Melbourne, St. Kilda, Carlton, Brisbane, etc.

Which group of clubs would you rather be in?

The majority wanted us to remain competitive and stay in the hunt for finals in 2018. Something very achievable with proper player management (coaching/fitness) during a "rebuild". Ramming the term "rebuild" down supporters' throats is just a pressure deflection used by coaches/management, and lots of supporters (and players) have bought it hook, line and sinker.

The club has decided to go down the hugely problematic path followed by Carlton, Saints, Brisbane, GC, Melbourne ... whereby losing is deemed acceptable and the club becomes a perennial loser. The powerful clubs like Geelong, Hawthorn or WC would never willingly go down that road. They expect/demand high performance.

Hawthorn is the perfect example. Similar position to us a few years ago, only they haven't dropped off a cliff. They've taken a step back, but not to the extreme measure we have. And now they are back in the hunt for the 8, and you can bet they'll be near the top 4 in a year or two. They've lost Lake, Hale, Hill, Rioli, Mitchell, Lewis, Roughy/Burgoyne aging, etc ... we shouldn't be that different to them. And using Hawthorn before Clarkson fixed the joint is irrelevant. That's ancient history. Or maybe it is relevant, seeing as they had to do something different to fix the club.

You are right , there is nothing to be done now than what we are doing

You seem happy to give the people in charge another chance , forgive their mistakes and trust the lessons learned from our fall from grace prevent a re-occurrence in the future

When something goes bad I believe you take a broom to it and make a fresh start with new people and new ideas

Both methods can work though so we will see what happens

Most have acknowledged that the rule changes were to move the game away from Ross Lyon football, so why is it surprising that a club (and coach) that had built it's list to play RL football is most harshly affected by the rule changes. IMO, we could have remained competitive without those changes. It's also why they have had to turn the list over so aggressively. Should RL have been ahead of those changes? Maybe. But from R5 2016 onwards, they have clearly moved away from our 2012-215 list. Now for all of the comments about the strength of clubs like Hawks, Geelong, Sydney, West Coast all of them have won the same number of premierships as us since 2016 and some of those clubs have massive advantages in player retention and attraction.

Port and Adelaide dropped down the ladder earlier this decade, Eagles around the end of last pretty much all teams except Sydney have to do it.

I'll take that bet on the proviso they don't sign more than one gun FA.

They haven't dropped off a cliff yet because they still have like 12 triple premiership players. Those players are 1 by 1 dropping over the edge and they only have Sicliy, Hardwick and Burton coming up to replace them. There time in the pits will come or at best they will become a North style permanent mid table team until they replenish their elite talent.

McCarthy, Matera, Bennell, Brad Hill (well forward of centre) have all made that choice.
And all never heard of again ... well Bhill has playing in centre.

Bennell injured and not able to make it back last year when he pinged his calf again after getting it 40% stronger than anyone which only tested his breaking point but not good enough to get a game. Played justthe 3 quarters for Peel as BHill last week and BHill straight back in after missing many weeks. Mentally I think Bennell needs to be thrown in and manged in AFL, preferably where he can play in the forward line.

You got Salim there Fonzi.
Around 2014 the club was trumpeting to be consistent contenders, that was the mantra and tagline.
The Hawks gave also traded out players who have become B22 at other clubs: Hartung, Anderson
Players retire, players get traded.....and coaches move on or they are sacked.
For a no excuses football club, we sure as hell seem to have a few.
I like you would rather be around the mark consistently instead of undertaking a rebuild due to piss poor list management.
