Apeness injured for Peel. Ffs stupid selection panel taking him back to the reserves. If he was sore or need fitness just manage him ffs. Ugh, seriously have such a dumb conditoning team.

You've got to be joking me! How bad is the injury?

Apeness was terrible last week. He deserved to be dropped. How the hell he was re-signed is the work of morons. Bond has to go!

Coz we have f all early picks, and he's an early pick that is just starting to show potential.
But I digress, Bond should be moved on at the end of this year!!

I swear we get more injuries at Peel than we do during an AFL game. Gotta feel for Apeness, unfairly dropped and now injured again, sounds like it's a bad one too.

It’s interesting, and I know other teams have players that are injury prone, but I wonder how much is genetic and how much is environmental. I have heard that Webber is the highest paid sports science guy in the league from someone in the know.

You’d hope that such a well resourced club would leave no stone unturned when it comes to injury prevention...

So many ' no traditional ' players are doing well these days Irishmen , Africans , Americans etc and they are a virtual free pick really with the way bringing them into the comp works whoever decided to avoid allocating any sort of resources to investigating these types of untapped avenues is a bloody liability. Just pick a relatively impoverished area South Africa for instance , pinch a couple of local soccer or union development personnel bring them over for a season of learning about the game then send them back with an experienced Aussie rules guy and start filtering a few guys into the system with Peel. Overseas players are the next leap forward for this game , but good old paint by numbers Freo is just sitting on our hands , waiting for the world to pay us our due

Sean Hurley says Hi.

So 1 guy, drafted 4 years ago.

Wow, tonygeeks do you have egg on your face or what? :$

1 bloke who's chances got ruined with injury and we just give up ?
This ain't ' this weeks' agenda from me , it's not too late but these things take time to build up and the pay off isn't immediate but it seems mad to not be doing anything in this regard

Plus it's chugger week on here so I probably need to wait for a loss to drum up any interest

So which Cat B rookies have been so successful that we should be focussing our energy on them? What percentage are successful? Why are they likely to be more successful than focussing on our zone selections/academies?

By the way, Freo applied for 2 Cat B rookies in the 2016 draft period with the AFL rejecting both.

So yes TheInjuryFactory I think tonygeeks has egg on his face for knowing so little about Freo's past practices. But you know, Melt thread away.

Cool tants, I'm glad that Tony is allowed to melt in the melt thread.

So that's 1 Irish bloke we have listed in 24 years so I'm not sure your solitary example explains Tony's point away. Have we had any other international imported players on the list? Not that I can remember anyway.

Not an issue I'm particularly melty over personally, but he's dead right it's a free hit so not sure why we wouldn't take it more often. Mason Cox goes alright.

I reckon our mate Gil could make a pretty good case for the merit of identifying and exploring American talent. Heard him on 6PR after the game, was shocked to hear they didn't even hold a US combine this year. We are a pretty well resourced, forward thinking club, why wouldn't we flesh this out?

Those cat B rookies were Watson and Cox, WA indigenous players so that has zero relevance to the original point made, but you know that which is why you highlighted their category and not their origin.

23 years of pretty underwhelming achievement would suggest following the tried and true hasn't worked out all that well for us in the past
I bet you in 10 yrs time players born o/s will be 10x what they are now

"I think having that soccer and basketball background helped. All the five clubs who were there were interested: North Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood, Port Adelaide and Fremantle."

"AT least five AFL clubs – including Fremantle – are interested in the services of departing Perth Wildcats guard Hugh Greenwood.

Greenwood stunned the Cats this week by walking out on the club less than three months after signing to pursue his football dream.

It is understood Adelaide, Fremantle, Collingwood, North Melbourne and St Kilda have all expressed interest in securing the 23-year-old as a Category B rookie."

FWIW I completely agree Tony, If we have the funds to spare we should always have 2 Cat-B's on our list. Zero risk, no picks and money is paid outside the cap. Doesn't always have to be a 7ft tall bloke either. Just get some athletic fyfe-like beast who is quick as lightning and has a general propensity to being good at sports. Everyone grew up knowing that one dude who was just good at every sport.

Give them 2yrs on the list and see how they go, if it doesn't look likely cut them and start again.

I'd target Europe. I'm sure that there'd be plenty that are too big for soccer, too small for basketball to make it to the top levels of those competitions.

They are soccer mad, but if you are broadshouldered and 192cm+ you have the turning circle of a battleship compared to the 180-190cm types. I was curious, looked up the team heights for the world cup.

That's interesting , it would be way less if you took the goalies out too
What are the averages for AFL teams ?
Do you think not using their hands would make AFL a bridge too far ?

We were in for Mason Cox too, but couldn't afford the millions Collingwood threw at him
