I wonder if it's Bond or Ross that doesn't attract them to the club?
Both I think.

If you were a key forward would you like play for Ross.

Bond just hasn’t been able to land a big forward. While, it was blessing in disguise not getting Clark, he stuffed up the negotiations.

Lions wanted our two first picks that ended up in Sheridan and Crozier for Clark.

He was too clever and try to screw the Lions. That allowed Melbourne to come in and trump us.

Going after big forwards/backs who had no intention to come to us made us look desperate. Being desperate isn’t attractive.

Yeah I think you have to be a bit image conscious when chasing players or you look like bumblers and it ends up like those coaches who go to too many head coach interviews and don't get the job eventually they pretty much become unhireable even if they are good because so many other clubs said no

Who has ?? Apart from the Hawks.
Its very hard to attract players unless its the go-home factor, which it must be said we've been pretty good at!
We have only missed out on:
Clark
Taylor
Hooker
Both McGoverns
Lobb
Hogan x 2
McCarthy (first time around)

Plus we had bids on
Frawley,
J Riowoldt

That’s almost a decade of failing to pull off a big fish.

Thank god we missed out on Clark and Cam 1st time round. Hooker meh we have players at a similar level atm. Taylor was getting past his best. McGoverns way too expensive, not worth it. Lobb is good but a bit of a pea heart.

Frawley and Riewoldt Vics so zero chance anyway.

All of those players bar Clark and Frawley re-signed with their original club so it's not like we missed out and some other club snagged them.

The only successful forward line we’re going to develop will be through that weird draft thingo.

Which apparently requires pick to be used on big tall guys who can take marks and kick them in the direction of their choosing

With Tabs, Cox, Dixon, Nads, Meek, we have something to work with. Its when the ball hits the ground, the high forwards
that could give immediate results.
Add a Hately, Rozee, Hill, Valente, with Medhat and the above players, should bring something missing, an exciting
forward line.
This will also hopefully improve McCarthy's game, instead of wasting so much energy for little scoring gain.

Agree, missing some of the ones that slipped past in the draft is a bigger crime ala Ben Brown.

This. He was a rookie pick (and a Freo supporter to boot), wasn't he? Same with JGov. MGov we would've had to pull the trigger earlier with a ND pick, but he's not as good as his bro anyway. But there's three quality talls - all Freo supporters - that we let slide to others.

(Not to say we haven't had our big wins, with Fyfe at 20, Alex Pearce #37, Sean Darcy #38, Brennan Cox #41, Michael Walters, Lachie Neale and Ed Langdon in the 50s, Luke Ryan #66, MJ in the PSD, and off the rookie list - SANDILANDS, no less, plus Tabs and Banfield who are going okay, and guys like Giro, Nyhuis and Duman all showing signs).

Another that still bugs me to this day is JRiewoldt. We traded pick 13 and Polak to Richmond for their Pick 8, so we could pass that and Medhurst onto Collingwood for Tarrant. Richmond used pick 13 to draft Riewoldt. Imagine Pav and him working together out of the forward line 2007-2016. :'(

The guys who went between our original #13, and then our new #8 (which we could also have used instead of LANDING A BIG FISH IN TARRANT... oh the IRONY!!!):

8 Ben Reid - Collingwood
9 David Armitage - St Kilda
10 Nathan Brown - Collingwood
11 Andrejs Everitt - Western Bulldogs
12 James Frawley - Melbourne
13 Jack Riewoldt - Richmond

What kind of moron would consider it a failure when a player re-signs with their own club o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

90+% of the media would be the kind of morons who would consider it a failure when Freo don't sign up any out of contract player, RFA or FA they thought we might be interested in. Most good players stay with their club but the idiots in the media are just too stupid to realise that. Brissy, GCS and GWS are really the only clubs who have lost multiple good players in recent years. Brissy seem to have righted their ship after a horror few years. GCS and GWS have both had a conveyor belt feeding first round draft picks in their front doors so have been ripe for the picking.

Jack Riewoldt is the miss I am angry about

LukeMac
Johnno
Sandi
Pav
Jack

That spine has to win a flag or two.

I've always said that this trade was worse than the Croad one.

Ok I haven't melted in a long time

If you want to be a top 4 team and win the premiership you need the best coaching staff

Freo simply do not have it. In 2013 Ross had maybe not the best but a very good group of skills and line coaches.

Now he has inexperienced coaches plus Rock who is a no name who is a yes man to Ross.

Players such as Crozier Sutty and Sherro showed promising signs and had gradually gotten worse. Crozier has since moved on. Questions have to be asked about our development coaches

Geelong and Hawks don't get high draft picks yet not only spot talent but develop talent better than almost any club

Lloyd and the recruiters have been solid when drafting however the talent goes to waste when the player goes backwards.

Freo need an overhaul and get the best staff to help Ross or even move Ross on and land another coach who will drive change for the good.

We had the chance to rookie list M McGov also. Took Gavin Robertson instead.

You've changed your tune Jedi. About a month or so ago you'll in the Ross in boss camp. What's changed since then?

I agree with your post by the way, spot on.

Generally agree with the comment but I do rate Hale very highly especially the work he has done with Taberner and Cox recently.

Totally agree, this is the melt thread.
Countdown until Salim calls you lame and a troublemaker.....
Don’t got deleting your own post because some esteemed individuals don’t agree.
