How the **** did moving to Cockburn get us further away from success?

Stupid ****ing **** munching morons at the helm of our club slowly destroying everything.

I have always been a guy that thought he deserves a chance for what he has done for the club and the bye '19 next year was the time to make the decision.

But I think the board needs to think closely about this. I think hes just about done. Pies next week could be it. This is not just coach killing game it almost a board killing game to not respond or else they personally look poor.

I think we need at the very least to get a senior assistant over from the East with a stand-in promised if he slips further. The board needs to look like they are seriously responding to this.

What would we actually do if we needed to be rid of Ross by halfway through next year. Our assistant coaches are seemingly so bad right now I wouldn't want any of them near the head coach role.

The spirit at the club has been missing for years now. Plain and simple.

That's what happens when you kick heart and soul players like Barlow to the curb. I said at the time that we shouldn't sack him for that reason. He was still playing good football as well if he was actually allowed to play in the guts.

People can say what they want about the talent of Suban, De Boer, Mayne, Clancee, Barlow, Mzungu, Crowley ... but these guys busted their guts and were the fabric of the club. They have left a huge hole in that regard.

Moving to a shithole like Cockburn doesn't help either. There would be zero essence of any Freo spirit in that new setup.

Usually like your posts, but these things are so far from being our current issues it’s not funny.

Get rid of Ross now, and get Ratten. Then have a clean-out of assistants that haven't re-signed
Ratten isn’t good.

I would be looking at coaches with 5 years experience and who has been a premiership player and premiership assistant coach.

Blake Caracella comes to mind.

Played under Sheedy,Malthouse, and Matthews.

Coached under Hardwick,Malthouse, Thompson and Scott.

Game was really shit.

However the line in the sand for me this week was the Ballantyne extension (see Ballas thread).

I’ve met the kid, and his extended family through the happy chance of sitting next to them at Subi Home games - but his extension is utterly senseless and demonstrates a club bereft of making any tough calls in pushing for a flag.

Oh yeah and those yes-men assistants? If half of them aren’t gone by the end of the year I’m just about ready to hand in my membership.

If nothing changes after the outcome of this match then we are not a serious football club. No footy club would find this acceptable. Trotting the old "rebuild" line over the past 3 years doesnt excuse piss poor performances like this. In fact, we have gone backwards.

At the very least, find some decent assistant coaches from somewhere else.

We have become an absolute laughing stick again.

A loss like this causes the following:

1. Players confidence are destroyed
2. Members don't renew
3. Sponsorship is reduced
4. Potential recruits won't come
5. Cerra is good as gone

It took years for Melbourne to recover from a loss like this. Maybe, they still haven't.
Yeah, what many of the denialists and pollyannas don't seem to realise is that we are sitting on the edge of a Melbourne like abyss. The list is no where near as good as they believe it is, and there is nothing that can turn this around quick enough to stop the list turnover compounding. If we right the ship by 2020, most of our best players will be late 20s, even early 30s. Which means our next window will be brief, and if it doesn't happen, we meander in the bottom of half of the ladder until we receive a Pav-like gift from god.

This loss was the worst in our history. Not the worst under Lyon, not the worst since the 2009 one goal game with Harvey, not the worst since the regular beltings under Drum. The worst ever. We've been a shit club for a fair bit of our existence, and somehow today we surpassed our worst. Back when Drum was coach, the average score per team per game was 20 points higher than today, and yet we never had a thrashing bigger than this. In an era of low scores as this one is, this is more like a 150+ point thrashing - this is in many ways our 186.

People will point to 8 wins, fewer 100 point thrashings than last year, and a young side, that things are looking up. We're also not looking at a two win season like in 2001, or Carlton this year.

But we've got a coach who is pretty good - knows how to jag wins here and there against flakey sides and underprepared coaches. However, even he can't turn shit into silk. Our list is shit. We may not be going as poorly as the clubs below us, but that is entirely due to the coach and no one else. He is the most likely one to be on the hook for this, but the problems go much, much deeper.

I think we are in for more pain heard Chris Bond being interviewed on 6PR and apparently all assistant coaches are contracted for next season. We are stale as a club and only change will improve us. Problem with coaches like Lyon Malthouse Eade is Their ethos to coaching doesn’t change that’s why when the game catches up with them they can’t implement change

Reams and reams of utter brainless drivel and at last someone said it.

Our list is totally fine for a club rebuilding. We should be doing better but when you almost never get a shot at playing anywhere near your best 22, you’ll always struggle. Plus our game plan isn’t suited to our list and where it’s at.
Coaching and Sports Science are the biggest areas of concern.

Ross deserves some blame for redlining the list 2014-15 when it was clear we were well off the pace. But even if he debuted more of the young blokes and gave them a longer run, would our list manager have been at any of the games to see it?

No doubt, the midfield is shockingly overrated on here. Sandilands has basically carried the whole team on his shoulders for a decade plus. Take him out and our so called A graders are in remedial school. Even when Fyfe won his brownlow he acknowledged Sandilands was the major influence.
It's hard to believe there have been muppets on here for years taking pot shots at Sandilands. He is the most influential player we have ever had, and he's nearly finished.

Ross, as senior coach, should have recognised that after 2013 he needed to punt the likes of Suban etc much earlier than he did, in favour of younger players, either to expose the list management failures earlier (therefore solving the problem quicker) or to hopefully expose a gem. Instead we were running over the cliff like Wiley Coyote - still looking good, but nothing underneath.

But at the same time, the fact that our head recruiter was not based in Perth meant that the failure of our list management strategy was not apparent to the man doing the management, because he was not exposed to the failures of his recruitment process on a day-by-day, week-by-week basis. Ie how does a list manager truly know if his picks were any good if he doesn't see them train / play with any great regularity?
