The Midfield Question

I think they can all function in the same team. Crisp can play off half forward or wing as he has good endurance to run up and down the field all day. Have Adams and Greenwood inside getting the ball out to pendles or a bursting swan, with Degoey, Broomhead, and Sidey all getting midfield action as well. Looks like a well balanced contested side to me, could do with some more polish on the outside (but so could most teams)

i thought that seedsman was contracted as a mid tall high running half-back and crisp was contracted as a slightly taller mid defensive inside/outside run-with midfielder

I'm not sure we're allowed to move these guys and the other players around willy-nilly..... the AFL might step in and stop it.

Would be awesome against the Hawks:

FB: Toovey Brown Reid
HB: Williams Frost Langdon
R: Grundy Adams Pendles
M: Rusty Greenwood Crisp
HF: Varcoe Cloke Elliott
FF: Fasolo White Blair

B: Swan Oxley Broomhead
S: Scharenberg

That's a pretty bloody good team I have to admit.

Oxley/Goldsack steps in for Crisp or Langdon. Witts for Grundy. Kennedy/De Goey for Blair. Ramsay for Toovey. We've got some bloody good coverage now in our team.

So when Levi is good to go I'm certain he is in our 22. But, when he is, we will have Adams, Crisp and Levi all playing inside mid roles. That's absolutely 1 too many considering all of their disposal is only ok at best. Adams' is downright bad. Can we have 3 inside mids with average disposal all in our centre square? Does Crisp move to half back or forward?

It doesn't look good having only pendles and sidebottom as elite users, lets all cut the sh*t, Swannys disposal is appalling too.
I haven't seen much of greenwood. but Adams is arguably the best handballer in the game, and Crisp I have seen no reason to believe that he is a poor kick I'm not certain how you come to the " poor disposal theory " on the other side of your theory however that having 3 in the same time would obviously not work but having 2 in at centre clearances then with a clean user of the ball. one of Steele or pendles is a must. I dare say that Da Goey will continue getting games until greenwood is fit and then we will send the kid back for a rest to the two's

I get the idea of playing Crisp on the wing and/or half forward, however given his performance so far this season in his on-ball/run with role, I'd be inclined to leave him be.

As for Levi, it does prove to be a bit of a selection conundrum. Can he play in any other possie than midfield. I notice that he kicked 16 goals last year (and 18 behinds) slightly up from his previous best of 4 in 2010 (when he managed 17 games)

i only said adams disposal was poor and his season efficiency is 59% so that backs my theory up. he may be a good handballer but bigfooty has been discussing his poor kicking for 2 years so it shoudnt be a surprise. crisp and greenwood can definitely kick but they are average across the AFL at best, i would put them both below average for midfielders. my point is, we need efficient kicks coming out of the middle and imo we need more than 1 of pendles or steele. you really need 2-3 good users in there at all times

Crisp has the balance to be a 50/50 player like Swan, as long as he can rack up possessions on the outside and on the spread. Adams runs hard and is constantly getting outside possessions, only had 8 contested from his 36 on the weekend. All 3 will play easily as long as their DE is okay (will never be amazing w/ Adams & probably not w/ Greenwood, Crisp I'm bullish on).

Definitely can fit all three in the same side. I think Crisp will end up settling on the wing anyway, given his mix of speed and endurance, and our other options on the inside.

Regardless, we need 6 players who go through the centre square anyway, they will all get centre square minutes in each game they play in there.

Agree with this.

Crisp on one wing and Sidebottom on the other.

Pendlebury Adams and Greenwood starting in the middle.

Swan plays a half forward role but rotates through with Pendles.

Agree, or Swan starts on the bench and rotates on at the first change.

With rotations these days you need to have a rotating midfield team on the bench as good as the one in the middle.

Pretty much.

I think if we can have Pendles, Adams and Greenwood starting in the middle and Swan off the half forward line he can rotate through.
Thus allowing Pendles to spend some time in the forward line like he has been doing.

If we have DeGoey/Broomhead/Kennedy on the bench they can rotate through the middle giving a chop out.

If Adams needs a rest bring in DeGoey.
If Greenwood needs a break bring in Broomhead or Kennedy.

All Pendles Adams and Greenwood won't need a rest at the same time to majority of the time at least 2 of them will be in the middle with any of the other names mentioned.

Geez I am really liking our depth and the potential of it if we can look after our injury list.

Because we are paying him $480 a year for the next four years... We wouldn't have done this if we weren't pretty sure..

Deal of the century! He must of really wanted to get out of North.

did we recruit him to play on the ball in the 2's?

Quinten Lynch and Clinton Young made themselves comfortable there.

What's stopping Greenwood from joining the list of "could have beens" running around victoria park ?

I understand I'm just being a devils advocate but it seems like unadulterated optimism that is keeping Greenwood in our best 22, You just need to look back over the last 2 or 3 years to see players with similar promise who have made the VFL their home!
