What if you're both failing to identify the social/societal/political value of entertainment?

Plenty of great TV shows and movies made on minimal budget.

Kraven the Hunter, budget = $100 million
The Brutalist, budget <$10 million

I know which one I would prefer to go and see.

Nurses are pretty life and death, not sure Patrick Dangerfield is.

The average person spends more time with the one Dangerfield (on tv) than they do with a nurse in a year, of which there are thousands. The sum paid to nurses Australia wide dwarfs Dangerfield's pay.

2023 has 330,620 registered nurses in Australia - average nurse salary is $79,550 = $26,300,821,000

That's adequate distribution of the money. That means if every nurse were paid $2 extra per year it would amount to Dangerfield's salary.

If the entire AFL salary cap were taken and given to the nurses they get $18.5 a week.

Yes there's likely significantly less risk of the usual attraction to a big club playing under lights at a packed MCG, so hopefully don't need to pay him overs to hold him, but he won't (and shouldn't) be signing for cheap.
As a club we have lost a heap of interstate talent due to both go home and more money.
We have recently targeted young SA kids that are either not wanting to go interstate, or are supporters of the club. Darcy Fogherty and Thilthorpe are two of them.
They have both signed long term contract at Adelaide, without going to the market, and on significantly less than they could get elsewhere.
If Thilthorpe was from Victoria he would have a half a dozen Victorian clubs offering 7 year deals at 1.5-2.0 million a year.
We haven't had to face that with them.

You would hope that the Western Bulldogs are also going to have that same outcome with Darcy.

Is it though?

Seems to me you're saying 'it is the way it is and because it is the way it is that's correct'.

Which is a very typical Taylor talking point, also supported by the usual Taylor thing where you take a bunch of stuff no one said and pretend they said it.

It's $26 billion dollars. A typical leftist point is that more is always better and the subtext is that it's never enough.

I don't think you can make an argument that the entertainment of AFL is worth less to the community than paying nurses $18.50 more per week.
