Yeah I must say that some of the trolling on this board recently has been pretty bad.

I stay away from opposition boards when we beat/are beaten by them. Most of them are far more harsh with trolls than here.

Without trying to sound like a knob, as a paid up member I expect the Adelaide board to be our sanctuary, others can come here as long as they are respectful, anything less and I'd expect to see a card.

From a users point of view I wouldn't mind seeing, rather than posts be deleted have them edited to show that a card was issued, it would just allow people to see that trolls are dealt with and also what isn't acceptable when they come to our boards.

Thats all we need just someone who has the power to delete posts and refer any further infractions to Vadar, Nikki or MD.

You're probably right. I just have more faith in human nature than is healthy. I've always been one for giving people the benefit of the doubt, until no doubt remains.

Wouldn't have made any difference last night though. Most of those trolls were pretty black & white, would have had an instantaneous reaction from me if I were online at the time.

It's the internet; assume the worst and you'll generally be right.

I'd vote for RL as Mod, because he's awesome.

Jenny would also be quite good I think (especially considering Jericho is finished).

Hey! I'm just offering in case nobody else wants the job. Like I said, I already do it for a couple of forums. Sometimes you just need someone who can just do clean ups rather than a full blown Mod.

We're not throwing it open for nominations just yet.

In future, if there is a problem and none of our mods are around, just send a PM to the admins or a mod from another board. Outside mods can't delete posts from our board, but they can infract the posters to prevent them from doing more damage.

For what it's worth, there have been many cards handed out as a result of last night's shenanigans, some by me today and others by Nikki & Fred last night. All threads should now be troll free. It's taken me a while, but I'm pretty sure things are now cleaned up completely.

Seriously though, last night was BS. I also blame the starters of those sooky threads. That sh*t should have been on Bay13.

Certainly has changed my opinion of saints supporers. It seems the scars of 97 (and their pathetic history ) still run deep.

It's not the 1st or won't be the last time a board can get out of control quickly. Unfortunately the nature of net & can't expect mods to be around 24/7. As has been mentioned report the post & contact an admin/supermod. It's not like it is a problem on this board every day!

Spot on Kane. I am currently overseas and was hanging around my hotel room deleting and infracting as many posts as I could. I knew Vader couldn't get on and that there would be some over reactions from people who post before thinking.

The issue mainly comes around when people respond to the trolls.

Report it and ignore it. Let us deal with it.

By the time I managed to check the report on my email (which I get almost instantly) then looked at the actual post, infracted it accordingly and then go back and delete the post there were another 4 to 5 replies to each individual troll which had to be cleaned up. Then people were quoting the replies to the trolling and it was another lot of clean up. I spent almost an hour in one thread just cleaning things up and still finding posts slipping through my efforts. (This was into my holiday btw I finally left when things seemed to have calmed down.)

I know when we set up the discussion around our own posting board rules there was discussion about what was allowed in terms of trolling. We have some very clever posters that are good at 'smacking down' trolls and sometimes that is the best way of dealing with them, but others get very ht under the collar and respond in a like form that could see them carded too.

We don't want to punish our own board members when they are responding to trolls hence why the decision was made to infract with a yellow in the first instance if we decide it is a troll and delete the post. It would make our job easier if you don't respond and do the right thing by the rules..... Report and then ignore it.

So to reiterate, don't respond to them. Let us deal with it. If it has to sit there a little bit, then so be it. We don't get paid to do this job, we do it because we love our footy. But I have found that I don't get as much time or actual desire to post anymore because of the crap you have to deal with.

Work commitments over the last 2 weeks have seen me travelling interstate a few times.....and family illness has kept me busy over the last 4 days.....so unfortunately I haven't been around as much as I would have liked lately.

It's annoying that we usually have very good coverage....and our board is well respected.........but circustances conspired over the weekend to see Vader, Nikki, and myself unavailable....and coinciding with a controversial weekend for us.

As Kane, Vader, and others have said.....if a local mod is not available....PM a supermod for immediate coverage and action.

I would like to think that this situation won't occur again.....but we're always open to serious nominations for additional help on this board. Given my other responsibilities across the site....it wouldn't be unreasonable to appoint a 4th mod......even though we are probably entering a period where it might be excessive.....but again...that's Murphy's Law.

I won't even acknowledge all predictable nominations for moderator........but if you are genuinely interested and have a reasonable record....then PM me

3. to help return the Adelaide Board to the premier Team Board on Big Footy that it once was.
