The rewarding of a moral victory is based broadly on brave losses, trying circumstances, honourable defeats, young lists and injury woes. It can probably be measured by calculating positive column inches after a loss (as opposed to the kind of coverage that the Dons have been getting) divided by the game’s points differential. I haven’t actually undertaken this data crunch (who has the time or the intestinal fortitude), but if I did, I suspect the ladder might look something like this:

LolNorf
Pies
Carlton
Dees
Gold Coast
Brisbane
Fremantle
Sydney
Port Adelaide
St Kilda
Bulldogs
GWS
Hawthorn
Essendon
Geelong
Adelaide
West Coast
Richmond

The range seems to go through “so much better than anyone predicted” and “have had a really difficult run” (injuries, draw, etc), to “are going to be a force in the future” (including clubs known to be rebuilding) and “you have to feel for [insert coach here]”. Then there’s the genuinely disappointing teams and finally those that are successful at playing the game and so trade in actual victories (presumably amoral, immoral or otherwise). No-one seems to have convincingly taken up the mantle of laughing stock just yet, but a few are close.

Don't be silly, the moral premiership is decided completely by the media. No calculations needed. A different team sits atop the ladder every week, no matter how many moral victories they have had, since each moral victory is given between 1 and 100 points.

At the end we all get participation awards.

You know it might almost be that a cup awarded every week. No wonder it’s so predictable.

Gonna take a stab in the dark and say that WCE will be moral victors this week regardless of the result.

I think we have a standout bunch of moral victors so far. Basically any of these teams can win the moral premership at this point of the season:
Melbourne
Collingwood
Brisbane
Carlton
Fremantle
lolnorf

We then have the next batch:
Hawthorn
St.Kilda
Western Bulldogs
Essendon (could go into any batch, we'll see)
Gold Coast

And these clubs are morally last:
Richmond
Adelaide
Geelong
West Coast
GWS
Sydney
Port Adelaide

If you beat a team you're morally grouped with, it's not considered a moral win. If you beat a team above you on the moral ladder, it also doesn't matter. If you lose to a team below you on the moral ladder, you in fact win.

A draw is as good as a circle jerk.

Geez I hope we get a turn. Couldnt stand the premiership drought but this feels worse

I have forseen our headline in the papers. For yes, i am a soothsayer of ye olde times. We shall lose by 4-5 goals. It shall read -
“Tigers fail on big stage”. The premise of the article shall read how the Tigers have once again lost on the road raising big questions on their premiership credentials.
Now, leave me be peasants, i have glass balls to rub.

Jay Clarks article after Pies game headlined "Pies the real winners" was subpar journalism. He then continued to bemoan the Pies injuries with plenty of what ifs, which has been a theme of Buckley's coaching for five years. To think they are targeting Butler and Rioli on their trade and draft thread, speaks volumes as to what is happening at the Holden Centre. Buckley claims they aren't copying Richmond.

He wouldn't have written the headline!
