The most ignored stat in the AFL - Nathan Fyfes disposal efficiency

Nathan Fyfes disposal efficiency

2013 - 60.9% (bottom 10 in whole league for those over 10 games and 3rd worst amongst midfielders)
2012 - 56.9% (worst in league for players above 10 games)
2011 - 61.5% (bottom 10 in the whole league for those over 10 games and 3rd worst amongst midfielders)

Ontop of this he leads the league in clangers over the past 3 years. His DE in a stopped play situation actually gets worse in that it hits the low 40's and he leads the league in intercepted kicks.

How can literally the worst disposer of the football in the AFL over the past 3 years (he has everyone covered by the length of Flemington too, except for Ryan O'Keefe) be considered such a all out superstar? Ive seen the likes of Daniel Jackson cop flak over there disposal week in week out yet Jacksons disposal efficiency vs Nathan Fyfe is nearly 15% better off.

How can a guy who hits his target this little be considered for a AA spot by everyone? It seems to me people judge him on disposal stats as opposed to what he does with those stats. People want to consider him elite. The fact of the matter is that until he learns how to kick he isnt there yet.

People are just buying into the media hype. The fact of the matter is Nathan Fyfe is the worst disposer of the ball since the stat was created yet apparantly it doesnt matter?

The amount of shit Ive seen Masten, Jackson, Boyd etc get for there kicking. They have 10-15% over Fyfe over the past 3 years. Where is Fyfes criticism?

Someone on Sport FM is taking disposal efficiency for players after a mark/free kick situation. Fyfes disposal efficiency in these situations is in the low 40's and worst amongst all Eagles/Freo players by like 20 odd percent.

Theres pointless stats and then there is relevant stats. Should have made that lot clearer in that statement.

The amount of kicks arnt that important when your turning it over as often as he does. He has been in the top 3 for Clangers in the past two years too and was in the top 20 in 2011 with a top 10 like average for them

I'd be surprised if that was actually true.....essentially it would mean his disposal efficiency is far better in contested situations than uncontested. Which would be ridiculous for any player.

I use the same argument about Matt Priddis. 3 blokes hanging off him in heavy traffic but some Eagle posters want him traded because his disposal efficiency is about 60%... Absolutely no idea !

Ive seen plenty of Freo games this season. I understand people rate his marking/his contested football ability. I rate those things about him too. It doesnt hide away from those stats though. It doesnt hide away from the fact player after player has been lambasted for there kicking while Nathan Fyfe, literally the worst kick in history since the stat started has been ignored a great deal.

Fyfe is a good player, elite he is not though. People who kick the ball at 58% over the past 3 years and are in the top 5 for clangers in that time frame have alow ot flaws. Flaws people ignore

Priddis hits a foot by target when he is stopped. As I said Fyfes disposal efficiency is actually worse during stopped play then open play. Priddis stats are in the low 70's for stopped play kicking. Fyfe is in the low 40's. Big difference

No player I can see has worse DE then this going back all the way to 2000.

Ryan O'Keefe is the only other player that comes even close but even he is miles off (ie. like 4%)

Pretty much this. He has a fantastic set of mitts on him for a midfielder and in that game in Perth where there was a torrential downpour during the game he was taking pack marks running back with the flight like it was nothing.

Its the most absurd stat ive ever seen but the guy has said it on radio a few times so he must have confidence in it. Fyfe generally tries to hit a lead or just flog it long when he marks it and that obviously leads to lower DE

Freo also play a style of game that probably doesn't cater to open targets quite as well (a lot of players congested around the ball). Might be a game style thing. Would be interested to see if Mundy and Barlow are really that different.
