First off, I need to start off and say that this is my own opinion and all should be taken as such.
This year is probably the most important year for the club in the last 10 years. It was 10 years ago this Friday that Wallace was begin as coach. It was the first year of the "5 year plan" to bring this great club back to the top. How it failed. After 4.5 seasons of coaching he was voted out mid season. From there we got an entire clean out of staff who wanted to wipe the slate clean and start fresh.
With a clean slate we got a new coach and with Gale at the helm we began to sure up our off field support network to give strength to the on field. Membership rose as the club climbed the ladder and we continued to surprise all onlookers. Then in 2013, 12 years since the previous appearance, we made it back into the finals. The fans showed the release of frustration and flocked to see the game against Carlton. What they saw left them disappointed but still with hope. Fast forward a year and the club stole the final position is the finals series to only be blown away by the opposition.
This year is the most important year in the last decade. Not only for the on field staff but also for the clubs administration. After making back to back finals the fans are coming out to support this mighty club. Membership sales have never been higher and the club has been turning great profits. The building blocks are there for continued success, however, that success hangs on this season. The club is at a crossroads and needs to make a decision. Does the playing group demand better standards and move to improve? or do we commemorate mediocre achievements. To continue the hype train that is being felt by the majority of supporters the club needs to make it further than week 1 of the finals. Anything less spells disaster. I can not see any scenario that keeps Damien Hardwick as coach if we are "making up numbers" in the top 8. Same goes for membership sales if the club is destabilised again through another coach sacking.
This is the year that will determine our next decade. If we can silence those who doubt us, if we can prove that we are a club to be feared, if we can show that we are committed to not repeat the mistakes of the past we can become the power of the AFL.
