I'm not trying to make Harry out to be a hack, he's a kid, but ultimately him conceding 5 to Pavlich reflects badly on Scarlett, and it shouldn't have happened. The coaching staff obviously had confidence that they could back Taylor in and allow Scarlett some freedom closer to goal. Pav had 4 in a flash so Scarlett was moved to him, but then to start the 4th the coaches did the same thing, identifying that they weren't generating enough run so Taylor went back to Pavlich and gave up his 5th.

Scarlett did do better. He and Pav were isolated a number of times with a rampaging Freo bearing down and Scarlett accounted for him every time. 2 of Taylor's goals were from 1-on-1's, and the other two were from Taylor losing him in traffic, it had nothing to do with a dominating Freo midfield, just rookie defensive mistakes.

Taylor will learn but it just gets me angry is all. Sometimes our defence can rotate a little too often than is neccessary :(

For gods sake noone is going to blame scarlett for pavlich getting those goals....you know the guy can play a bit don't you?.

Geelong need scarlett to roam free in the backline so they get some decent run off half back....the dockers did their homework well and stiffled that run.....I have never seen scarlett tackled so much as he was tonight.

Andrew Mackie looks far too underdone for the second week in a row...did he actually hit a target tonight?

Normally if a ruckman dominates a game like sandilands did tonight his team would win the game...we scraped in with the aid of a couple of free kicks and one J Selwood who we must remind ourselves is in just his second year of AFL.

The boys had a hard game last week and ran into another and amazingly after being 39 points down dragged themselves up and won the contest...a mighty effort. That was a great win no matter how ugly it looked:thumbsu:.

Amen. Called for him to be dropped last week on his performance, couldn't hit a target to save himself tonight and his chasing/pressure simply was not good enough.

I thought he was better at times than last week, but still has a way to go to get back to full form.

I don't think too many would doubt that Geelong got away with one 2nite.

Assisted by the umpires (IMO, ducks for cover just in case), got smashed in the ruck, seemed to handball to players who were hot or flat footed and Ling appeared to be playing injured while Mackie should have been made to come back in the VFL (2 fairly ordinary efforts now since coming back from injury).

The upside is Geelong still managed to win. Selwood was fantastic and Hawkins showed a little bit of what he is going to be capable of in the future.

A number of players were down but the Catters still found a way home.

That is the big upside and hopefully the learn from it.

4 quarter effort boys, you are now the HUNTED.

And I think that's it in a nutshell, every team wants the be the first to knock them off their perch....no game is going to be easy for them

All I know is that I do not want to be going into big games at the end of the year without Ottens. If we do, we are a vulnerable unit.

We are very beatable at the moment but are halfway to having enough wins on the board to get into the big stuff. Therefore, I am delighted. With the interstate sides down this year a top 4 finish will give any side a fair crack. ie: no interstate finals in the first week for the top 4. We are on track but will need to improve before crunch time. The Hall of Fame game will present an interesting challenge to us because we are hurting at the moment and relying on bursts to get the points. Some of our guns could really do with a week off if thats what the other teams are going to get.

Yep, Freo were red hot tonight and wanted to beat us like it was a derby. We were super lucky.

On Taylor, I can't say too much against him. He took a great grab and a match-saving one at the end. He got beaten by Pavlich one out, but seriously, who isn't every now and again. Pav is a bloody good player - I wouldn't begrudge Harry for giving a few, he's still raw and will get better.

Just happy to get the four points here!

Weird.

I was at the game and not until Pavlich took that mark did my heart start pumping. I was confident even when we were 42 points behind.

Me too! I was also at the game and I fully expected Geelong to run over the top of them. However, the last couple of minutes was just damn intense. Was actually fun to watch, in hindsight. I think I preferred that to an actual thrashing.

we were on our way home from the foo fighters gig,l herd a whisper that freo were like 30 points up in the last quarter l thought what the f@ck when we got back to the car it was on the radio,we thought nar we;ll watch it when we got home what a game we were getting smashed that big beam pole sandy was killing us and l was getting sick of hearing that bell, and they were killing us were's the free's ump,as the last quarter started l said to my g/f if we kick the first 2 hopefully 3 we will win she said your nuts well it turned out to be a cracker last quarter we were lucky

Mate is your shift key broken?:D

That bell drives me nuts too. Imagine sitting next to that bloke at the ground - by the second quarter I'd have shoved it up his jaxy.

Was watching it last night and I remember early in the 3rd quarter Bell got a touch but the guy didn't ring his bell and I thought to myself "Thank goodness, the guy's gone home early." Wasn't to be unfortunately.

No, no. Taylor is a great talent who I'm very impressed with.

I'm just pissed about how his showing will refelct on Scarlett, and the stupid coaching decisions that were made. That's the point I'm trying to make. I don't intend to bag the hell out of Taylor, Taylor is a kid and he's entitled to a bad game nothing wrong with that. Pav wouldn't have kicked 5 if Scarlett was on him from start to finish, which is the way it should have been.

Taylor will learn, be better for it and he will be a star of the future and key player for us.

I was really disappointed when Geelong lost Scott Thompson to the vagueries of the draft. Taylor has more than made up for that loss. Seem to recall Scarlett having a tough day out in a few of his early games. I reckon Taylor is in good hands.

From what I have seen, I include Taylor with Selwood and Hawkins in the 'future of Geelong' category.

I was laughing my head off that we got 4 points out of that game. Not too worried about the way the game went. We don't have to play against an inspired Sandilands every week. We'll have Otto back soon and hopefully Egan before season end. It's not like us to make all those skill errors - we'll fix it. I think we're building up to give Richmond another shellacking!

I guess this is what they mean about being the hunted.

RE playing Taylor on Pavlich, Big Pav is the wrong body type for Taylor. He's just way too strong. Taylor is without doubt best on the more athletic forwards, ie Riewoldt and Franklin, which is lucky as Harley and Egan can't really take them as easily.
