I like Come together too Penny.
Also Twist and shout. Mainly for lennon extending himself.
There's so many songs like that.

My 10 year old is learning guitar. And her teacher often breaks into something to provide an example of what she'll be able to play.

I remember once saying "hun, know that song?"
Err.... it's the beatles.

"Correct, that's blackbird"

Cracking song.

:) So good, and apparently really hard to learn if you're a newbie. It's probably my favourite actually. One of those ones you have to find yourself, I think.

BTW I'm jealous of your daughter, I should have chosen guitar over flute when I was 8! She'll be the coolest in a few years.

She is very cool right now.
Currently doing eye of the tiger. And has to have it nailed by Friday.

I forget she's 10 when she plays.

I want her to do wanted dead or alive for the end of year concert.
I'm a selfish bastard :)

Haha that's awesome. What are her favourites? I still was listening to the spice girls and backstreet boys when I was 10 :/

I honestly don't even know what music she likes.
Sounds bad.

I have spent 15 minutes listening to her play every day for 10 months. She won't play unless I watch her.
And she never tries to play something she doesn't have in her book.

She has only just started improvising.
i.e. she has her own peter gunn theme where she pretty much plays power chords rather than notes.
And I challenge her to put 'rests' into songs she knows, and to change tempos etc. Slow it down, speed it up. faster. faster.

I'm not sure where or when it will kick in that she starts trying to play tunes without being taught them.
She is the fastest student the teacher has ever had complete his first 2 books.

Previous record was 4 terms. She did it in 3 and 1 week.
And she is completely different after each lesson.

She jumps forward big time. I love the fact that she practices, and then turns up and learns.
I said to her from the start. "Don't waste our money. But more importantly, don't waste your teachers time"
And she hasn't.

If she does blackbird I will put it up.

Looking forward to Blackbird! :) she's just learning the basics, if she gets the chords down and listens to a lot of music she might start getting inspired. It's like learning to write or a new language. It's really cool that she's taking to it so naturally.

This is why I'm glad I went to an all girls school

I can imagine - if you were in the private school set!

Just to go for something completely different...

I was thinking about the Purple mob were are going to play , and I started to think about colour and music. ....

Some notable bands have music in their name.

So of course with Freo in my Mind.... Deep Purple . Apart from the obvious I can't say Im all over the music , I guess I'm more Pink that Purple

I have no doctorate of music , I struggle to know a chord from a note these days with a Guitar in my hands , but I do love it when a piece of music is matched by lyrics equally as good , and it resonates with you , and emotionally touchs you.

Yes I know its Gilmore not Floyd but I like simplicity of this version ( well today I do any way)

Any other colourful bands?

Black Sabbath- is that a little too dark for you? (plus black not actually being a colour anyway, she says, knowingly ;))

The first thing that came to mind was Bowie. Unsure how apt that is.

Dont get too tech on me TCat. Black is color to my mind. Hey if you pay extra for Premium paint on a car and its black...its a colour. Sabbath. See I would never have though of them
But for the sake of argument , white is a colour as well.

I suppose I'd have to ask.....is "Cream" a colour or a food or infact something else again?

Speaking technically, white would be all colours of the spectrum, while black would be the absence of colour- if I remember my early science years correctly. As for Cream- definitely a band and, perhaps by a small stretch, Godley and Creme could be half a band ;)

Pink Floyd

The Cranberries

Yellow Dog (their song "Just One More Night" used to drive me crazy but I couldn't help but sing it, it was so annoying!)

Silverchair

I'm sure if you look beyond the rainbow, there'd be heaps more.
