hopefully they inject more jokes in it 2nd time around
I reckon it would be a better show if it just went completely absurd - it tried to keep itself realistic at time with boring plot lines like his daughter’s, when it’s stupidest stuff like the gorilla eating the dog in space was pretty funny.

2 Episodes into The Queens Gambit and i am hooked.

Absolutely brilliant. :thumbsu:

1 episode in and already impressed by the acting of young Elizabeth Harmon, filming techniques, and use of real chess details - who outside of chess would've heard of the Sicilian Defence?

I heard the main actress that plays adult Beth is even better.

Episode 2 is fantastic and just leaves you with that " I want mooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeee" feeling!

Was fantastic, had to go into Episode 3. Loved this exchange:

"What are you doing?"
"Replaying my earlier games"
"What for?"
"To analyse my weaknesses"
"Are there any?"
"No"
"Good girl" (drinks more wine)

Queens Gambit was ok. I thought they were taking the piss though with the cowboy chess player (Benny?) who was the dweeb kid in Love Actually.

Solid pick up - did seem like they were trying to create some sort of Chess Hemmingway out of him.

Just binged Dash & Lily in the last week - its a nice Christmas quirky rom com - would highly recommend - shits all over that movie Holidate that was mentioned earlier.

(Plus Lily extremely bangable)

Finished The Queen's Gambit, it did taper off slightly but still an excellent series.

I liked how it didn't employ the clichés such as:

- Abusive adoptive mother
- Orphanage straight out of Dickensian London
- Evil Soviets
- Sexist rivals
- Prodigy gets to the top on talent alone

Overall very well made and a contender for awards.
