In the dogs/crows game, it was clear that Thompson was the only midfielder actually getting to most contests, the rest of the mids simply weren't working hard enough, as is often the case with young teams. If the other midfielders worked harder than maybe Thompson wouldn't even need to be there to win the ball but it wasn't the case. They could well have lost by 15 goals without his efforts.
Not sure if it's a similar case with Priddis.

IMO they don't "get to contests". They get caught out being unable to effect the play so they jog in between everything waiting for the next stoppage. I cant say I have seen Thompson live recently to view this but he has the same speed limitation that Priddis does so I would suggest he does the same thing. Which is exactly what Priddis does.
I mean a ruck man who is on the ball "gets to contests" but it isn't like ruck man sprint around the ground covering mass amounts of territory.
This is one of the terms that I find gets used just like "only guy who goes in and gets it". Its made up to make it sound lie they are moving heaven and Earth to win the game.
Dangerfield gets those figures Adelaide don't lose by 9 goals. Thompson gets them and they get thumped and he is the only guy trying.

Priddis also "defends the contest line". Apparently the other mids aren't. Doesn't make sense.

****in a - i sure as hell dont get it

our midfield is so one paced

Jesus the way people are talking, anyone would think Priddis put in a dominant display against GWS and nailed 5 goals.

He was OK, some good moments, like half a dozen other players for WCE. Name a player who played bad for us? We won by 87pts and bullied again, it's bound to make the entire team look better than they actually are. The fact people need that pointed out is baffling.

yes
I get that you also mean a game experienced bodied player who can handle the roughness of AFL. However Thompson I would suggest, would be still selected because he brings true bulk and hardness to the game. Can bust tackles and packs.. is a TANK . Can be an "enforcer". Which is what u might want in a hard bodied 4th or 5 mid yes? if that is your criteria?? otherwise why else are they there?
Priddis in this regard? ? ?? ? ? zero
Thomson 187cm 86kg
Priddis 185cm 85kg

Mine has reached the point where most pages in this thread make no sense whatsoever, but still it draws me back.

Kudos to Eastern Ranges and The Dodger for being regulars for the negative and never degenerating into insults.

Best thing about that was it shows just how hard he works both ways.

@0:44 he starts in the guts before drifting back to save a goal in defense with his courage.

Whilst @2:33 he's deep in the forward pocket, before pushing up into the middle of the ground and getting that kick delivered onto Sinclairs chest.
